Respectful Relationships

Year 4 - Respectful Relationships
| |
In Year 4, students have been learning about positive coping
| Positive Coping As they grow and develop, children encounter situations where they feel worried, nervous, and sometimes even scared. Individuals manage these demands by using a range of coping strategies - some more effective than others. Helping students to learn and practise a variety of positive coping skills enables them to manage future changes and challenges more successfully.
Resilience research shows that positive self-talk is linked to greater persistence when facing difficulties, while negative self-talk is associated with higher levels of distress, depression, and anxiety. Positive self-talk involves realistic assessments of one's abilities and efforts, acknowledging personal strengths, and showing gratitude for the positives. In contrast, negative self-talk includes excessive self-blame, exaggeration of setbacks, and focusing only on what's going wrong. Fortunately, positive self-talk is a skill that can be taught and strengthened with practice.
