Principal's Report

Dear HPS Community,

We began this week at assembly with our SRC reps acknowledging and sharing information about National Sorry Day, held annually on May 26th, which precedes National Reconciliation Week, which runs from May 27th to June 3rd.

Sorry Day commemorates the Stolen Generations, and Reconciliation Week is a period for Australians to reflect on and participate in reconciliation efforts with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

  • National Sorry Day (May 26th):

This day is dedicated to acknowledging the past and acknowledging the harm caused by the removal of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children from their families, known as the Stolen Generations. It's a time to remember those who were affected by this practice and to support survivors.

  • National Reconciliation Week (May 27th - June 3rd):

This week is a period for all Australians to reflect on the history and ongoing efforts to reconcile with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. It's a time to learn about shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to consider how to build a more just and equitable future for all.

Recorder Soirée

Congratulations to everyone who performed at the mid year recorder soirée on Wednesday evening. The audience was kept engaged and entertained by the musical talents of all students who performed.

Music offers numerous benefits for physical, mental, and emotional well-being. It can reduce stress, improve mood, enhance cognitive functions like memory and concentration. Additionally, music can boost motivation, increase self-esteem, and facilitate emotional expression. I certainly felt uplifted when leaving the event!

Congratulations to recorder students for confidently performing and working together as a team to ensure a successful event. Well done and thank you to the audience for showing strong support and enthusiasm, and a very big thank you to Fiona Walters, recorder teacher, for all the work and opportunities she has provided to our students. Great job everyone!

Baby News!

Congratulations to Liam Szczepanski and his partner Claire on the safe arrival of their beautiful daughter, Maeve. We wish them all the very best as they get to know each other and settle into family life together.

HPS Gardener

Our call out to our HPS community for a gardener has been successful! We have welcomed Logan D's dad, Serge, into the role and he is keen to get our gardens back to well maintained state that we all know and love.

As there is a number of months work to catch up on, Serge has been busy systematically working his way through the garden beds to bring them back to a healthy and aesthetically pleasing level again.
