Principal's News
Dear Parent and Carers,
Winter is definitely here!
While I thoroughly enjoyed our extended summer, I do love some aspects of winter; footy season (not as much as some other years!); looking out at the wind and rain while watching Netflix, reading or cooking; appreciating the lovely, warm home I am lucky enough to enjoy, staying under the doona listening to the rain on the roof, steaming hot chocolate, slow cooked dinners and soup. I hope you managed to find a cosy spot on the long weekend to enjoy some of your winter favourites.
We warmly welcome Wallace and his family to Holy Rosary. Wallace has joined 3/4 White. If you know other families who may be interested in enrolment in 2026, please ask them to call the office to arrange a tour before 20 June; our first round closing date for Prep students. At this time, we have over 40 Prep enrolments. There are also some vacancies in other year levels.Thank you to families who have continued to promote Holy Rosary in the community.
Please advise the office if your P-Yr 5 child will not be continuing at HR next year. This helps us to organise class structures and staffing so your advance notice is much appreciated.
Congratulations
Vicky, Tom and Jack lovingly welcomed baby Finn last week. He arrived in the early hours on 1st June and they are absolutely smitten with their little bundle of joy - especially newly promoted big brother Jack! We look forward to meeting Finn.
Year 5/6 camp
We wish Year 5/6 students and staff a fantastic time at camp! We hope that this experience is filled with laughter, adventure, and lasting memories, and that our students make the most of the opportunity to learn, grow, and forge new friendships. Thanks to our dedicated and committed staff, Tarquin, Samantha, Allison, Trist, Maria, Lauren, Grace and Ellouise who will accompany our children on camp. Have a fabulous time!
Line marking Works- Gower Street
Works on the north side (side of the church) are scheduled to take place today and tomorrow, while works on the south side (side of the school) will be carried out on Thursday and Friday. We contacted Melbourne City Council and they advised that they will be staggering these works to help minimise disruption, particularly around school pick up and drop off times. Most works will be undertaken between 10am and 2pm to reduce any potential impact.
Parent/Guardian/Carer Code of Conduct
The Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools (MACS) Parent/Guardian/Carer Code of Conduct sets clear expectations to maintain a respectful, safe, and supportive school environment.
Key Expectations:
- Respectful Behaviour: Treat all members of the school community with courtesy, respect and consideration, even when in disagreement.
- Compliance with Policies: Adhere to all school rules, health and safety procedures, and policies.
- Positive Communication: Engage constructively with staff and use appropriate channels for concerns or complaints.
- Supportive Engagement: Uphold the school's values and participate positively in school activities.
Particular items I draw your attention to:
- Do not approach students or parents to resolve issues, especially those involving children. These must be dealt with by the school.
- Refrain from activities, conduct or communication that would reasonably be seen to undermine the reputation of the school, employees or students of the school, including activities on social media.
Breaches of this policy may result in actions such as warnings, restricted access to school grounds, or, in severe cases, termination of a student's enrolment. This Code applies to all interactions within the school environment and related activities, both in-person and online.
New Newsletter Tabs
In the newsletter you will find some new tabs- Administration, Learning and Teaching, PBL and MACSeye. In Administration you will find details of the professional photos recently taken of your children. In Learning and Teaching, read about the fabulous sessions Sarah and Maria offered to parents last week and the recipe for Maria’s delicious carrot cake. MACSeye provides all the details about our new OSHC provider. Our PBL lesson for the week can be found in PBL.
Fundraising Update
In recent newsletters I have acknowledged the fabulous efforts of parents who led and worked at fundraising events. At that time I did not have final profits from these days.
-Mother's Day Cake Stall $2787.77
-Election Day BBQ $3031.21
This year's fundraising monies will be used for science and technology and library resources. Thank you and congratulations to our convenors and all volunteers for your magnificent efforts.
OSHC
MACSeye, a recently formed entity of MACS is the newly appointed Outside School Hours Care provider for Holy Rosary. They will commence service on 21 July, first day of Term 3. From what I can ascertain TeamKids were to provide vacation care for the school holiday period but they have revoked their offer, and instead suggest HR families enrol at the program at Kensington or Flemington primary schools. Legally, MACSeye cannot provide service until Monday 21 July. I understand that this is inconvenient for families but I am unable to influence this decision by TK. MACSeye will use the second week of the school holiday period to set up the space.
First Aid
Last week staff completed their annual CPR accreditation and will continue over coming weeks to renew their first aid and anaphylaxis training due every three years.
Student Free Day
Our next student free day falls on Tuesday 24 June. How do we establish the days and dates for our student free days? There are a few considerations- 1. When is the speaker available? When is MACS Northern Region Office available? (We can use this space for free and it has train access) 3. Where possible, we also avoid specialist lessons held on Wednesdays and Thursdays. On 24th June all staff will be working with Michael McGirr who will focus on social justice.
HR Parish News
At recent Parish Pastoral Council meetings we have been discussing the amalgamation of the two parishes of Flemington and Kensington. For over twenty years the parishes have been in partnership but steps are currently being undertaken to become one parish. Most of the change will be behind the scenes and parishioners will not see any noticeable difference. The parish will maintain two churches; Holy Rosary and St Brendan’s, and there will be no change in name.
Staff Congratulations
Recently, we presented plants in acknowledgement of the following staff for their learning achievements:
Lauren- Grad Certificate in Teaching Religious Education
Nadia K - Certificate IV in Education Support
Ava- Bachelor of Education
Gemma- Bachelor of Education
Gifting plants acknowledges staff commitment to personal and professional development, mirroring the growth of plants from seeds to full blooming plants.
Save the Date
Parish celebrations for Holy Rosary Day will be held on Sunday 12 October. Please save this date and come along to celebrate our school and parish.
Have a fabulous week
Christine
