Year 1

We have had an exciting term in Year 1 so far. The students have been working hard on all their learning and had an incursion too. It has been wonderful to see their confidence grow in the classroom and take on new challenges.
In Literacy we have been building the students' knowledge of information writing, learning about Giraffes. The students had the opportunity to learn what goes in an informative piece including the title, general statement and two facts. Also the students have been working on alternative spelling choices in their core literacy lessons with a focus on the vowel sounds.
In Maths the students have been able to complete some more hands-on learning. They have practiced hefting with informal scales, testing out cups on coat hangers and using different objects from around the classroom to compare. In addition to this the students built growing patterns with unifix blocks, showing how many we add each time and getting to share their patterns with the whole class.
The students had the opportunity to learn some first aid at the Cool Kids First Aid training incursion. They learnt what an emergency is and what to do in an emergency. The students were taught simple DRSABCD and got to practice on a first aid manikin. At the end of the learning the students got a certificate for their participation in the first aid.
On Friday the 23rd the students competed in the athletics day. They showed their house pride with a splash of their colour and put in their best efforts. We saw lots of kindness being shown by all students, cheering on their friends the whole time. A big congratulations to all the students who joined in.
It has been a wonderful term so far and we are so excited to see how the rest of the term goes.
