Design & Technology Snapshot

It's been a dynamic and hands-on term in Design and Technology, with students embracing creativity, problem-solving, and practical skill-building across exciting projects.

Year 7 – Getting Creative with Metal, Wood and Circuits

Our Year 7s have made a fantastic start to their high school D&T journey. They started the term by designing and building their own Wastepaper Hoop, a great introduction to metalwork and the design process. They've now moved into the woodwork space to create the ever-popular Steady Hand Game and Spinner, which combines timber, metal, and soldered circuits. These projects spark genuine enthusiasm and give students a fun, hands-on way to learn foundational workshop skills.

Year 9 – Crafting with Purpose in 'With the Grain'

Students in Year 9 have been hard at work designing and constructing their Hot Plate Trivets. Using timber joints created with the Domino machine and designing their ceramic tile mosaics, students are producing functional and stylish pieces that wouldn't look out of place in any kitchen. The pride in their craftsmanship is evident.

Year 10 – From Bricks to Bottles

Our Year 10 Building and Construction students have wrapped up their bricklaying activities and are deep into carpentry, crafting a timber Bottle Carrier. This project introduces more advanced tools like the compound mitre saw and domino machine, while reinforcing safe work practices and design thinking. The level of focus and enthusiasm from students has been great.
