Grade 5/6

It’s hard to believe that we are nearing the end of Term 2! Grade 5/6 are continuing to work hard up until the very end of term, finalising units of work and revising important topics before the holidays. In English, students are eager to continue reading and finish our whole class text Us Mob: Walawurru, with students enjoying hearing other character’s stories from their own perspective. We have also finished our factual recounts on the 1967 Australian Referendum, with many students having published both a handwritten and typed good copy. We will now be working towards creating a character analysis on the main protagonist, Ruby.
In Mathematics, students have revisited the topic of Statistics, revising how to classify data as categorical or numerical, and more specifically as nominal, discrete, continuous or ordinal data sets. Students have also represented data using technology to make graphs and interpreted side-by-side column graphs and line graphs. For the remainder of the term, we will be looking at probability, including representing chance as fractions and decimals.
Humanities and Science has seen us continue to explore the impacts of bushfires, and also volcanoes. Next week, students will be starting a project on their choice of either bushfires or volcanoes. I am very much looking forward to seeing students showcasing their knowledge of these natural disasters in a creative manner!
Next week, all Grade 5 students are invited to attend Baimbridge for a ‘come and try day’ on Thursday 26th June. This is an opportunity for students to experience secondary school life, regardless of what school they will be attending in Year 7. We wish all Grade 5 students a fun-filled day!
