Grade 4/5

Over the past two weeks, our focus has been on the school value of Resilience. Students have explored what it means to be resilient—both in the classroom and out in the playground. I’ve been awarding extra school tokens to students who demonstrate persistence, positive thinking, and the ability to bounce back from setbacks. In Sport, students played games that encouraged them to stay resilient when tagged, and it was wonderful to see so many recognising that it’s all part of the fun!

In Literacy, we’ve continued reading our class novel, Uncle Xbox. The students have been engaged in thoughtful discussions around the plot, characters, and themes. We’ve also been focusing on improving sentence structure—moving from simple to complex sentences. The class has done a great job identifying independent and dependent clauses and using commas correctly in their writing.

In Numeracy, we’ve been working on identifying, describing, and continuing number patterns. It’s been fantastic to see students so engaged, with some even choosing to practise outside of lesson time! We also enjoyed playing a fun addition game, Race to 100, which helped students practise their mental maths strategies in a collaborative and enjoyable way.

A reminder that on Thursday 26th, our Year 5 students will be attending a taster day at Baimbridge Secondary School. We wish them a fantastic day and look forward to hearing all about their experiences on Friday!
