Grade Prep/1

Week 9 - Not long to go!
In Prep/1 this week, we’ve continued exploring Indigenous perspectives in Literacy. We read Walk With Us and Deadly Boots, which sparked some powerful discussions about fairness, identity, and belonging. One of our key takeaways was that it’s not what we wear—like fancy boots—that makes us important, but how we feel about ourselves on the inside. The students shared thoughtful ideas and made personal connections to the stories.
In Writing, we’ve been focusing on turning fragments into full, meaningful sentences. We’ve practised identifying the missing parts of a sentence and worked together to add who, what, and where. The students are becoming more confident writers.
In Maths, we’ve started collecting and interpreting data. The students loved moving around the room with their clipboards, asking classmates questions like “Do you like pizza or ice cream?” and recording their answers. We then discussed our findings using tally marks and simple graphs. It was a fun and practical way to link maths with real-world experiences.
In Humanities, we’ve been learning about Aboriginal Dreaming stories. We read Tiddalick the Frog, who drank all the water, and Bunjil the Eagle, the creator spirit. These stories helped us understand how First Nations people pass down knowledge, values, and cultural history.
It’s hard to believe we’re almost at the end of the term—what a busy and wonderful journey it’s been so far!
