Report

by Helen Freeman, Principal

It’s been an exciting action-packed fortnight at Syndal South.

Education Week

Our delayed Education Week celebrations were a huge success. It was wonderful to see so many families visiting the school on the Friday afternoon. The family homework was a highlight for me, it was obvious that families had put so much effort into the task, 10/10. The posters are making an interesting and colourful display around the school. A huge thank you to you all.

Cross Country

Congratulations to Imogen, Lucas and Eddie, members of the Cross-Country Team who competed in the Eastern Metropolitan Regional Cross Country at the Yarra Valley Racecourse. The three super stars all ran amazing races, all achieving a personal best.

Soccer Success

Last Friday we had our two soccer teams compete in the District Soccer Championships at the Eastern Lions Soccer Club in Burwood. Both teams did exceptionally well, playing and behaving at their very best.

The girls’ team played a number of games across the day and through resilience, respect and determination won the competition.  They are now the proud recipients of the ‘Gardiners District Girls Soccer Champions Trophy.’ A special mention to Imogen who was an outstanding striker kicking 6 of the 7 goals in the winning game.

Aerobics

Congratulations to our Aerobic Teams who competed in the ‘Action Challenge’ at Patterson River Secondary College on Saturday. All teams completed amazing performances and were rewarded with a medal. Special mention to the ‘Gummi Bears’ as they received a special judges award for their performance. All did an amazing job especially the students who are new to aerobics this year. They are all practising hard now for the upcoming State Aerobics Competition on Saturday the 28th June at Caulfield Grammar, Wheelers Hill Campus. Go Syndal!!

Parent/Teacher Interviews

Parent-teacher interviews will be held on Wednesday 2nd July unless otherwise advised. The interview will once again be booked online via the Compass Parent Portal. The booking system will be open from tomorrow and will remain open until 9.00am on Monday 30th June.

A reminder that interviews are scheduled for 10 minutes duration only. Please help to support our families by ensuring you are on time for interviews and finishing within the allocated 10 minutes. If you need more time to discuss any particular issue with your child’s teacher, please indicate this to them before the interview finishes, so that you can both arrange a suitable time for a follow-up conversation.

The purpose of the meeting/interview is:

  • To allow parents to discuss their child’s progress so far this year.

  • To exchange any relevant information that parents/teachers feel is pertinent to their child’s future learning goals.

  • For teachers to discuss any general issues that have arisen since the start of the year.

It is important that before the interview parents have read their child’s midyear report.

Reports

Teachers are just adding the final comments to the student reports. From approximately 4.00pm on Friday 27th June, you will be able to access your child’s Semester 1 reports from our Compass Portal. Once logged in, you will be able to download a pdf copy of the report and save it or print it for your records. If you misplace your report in the future, you can simply log in to the Compass Portal and download it again, whilst your child is enrolled at SSPS.

Compass is a web-based system that is accessible on any modern web browser or by using the ‘Compass School Manager’ app available for iOS or Android. If you have a smartphone, we encourage you to download the app, as this will allow both parents/carers to receive ‘push’ notifications on your device. Please note that some features of the portal are only available by logging in via the website. If you are experiencing problems accessing your child’s report via the app, then please try to access it on a desktop or laptop computer instead, as sometimes the app doesn’t work.

To access our Parent Portal, go to https://syndalsp-vic.compass.education.

To log in to the site, you will need your family’s username and password. If you have misplaced these details, please contact the office, which can reissue you with a new password.

Once you have logged in navigate to the reports section of your child’s student profile page (see instructions below).

Cheer Cheese Toasties

Time is running out to order your ‘cheese toastie’ and we do not want anyone to miss out so please if you haven’t already, log onto COMPASS and place your child’s order.

Finally, I hope you have noticed the two amazing artworks in the banner above today. Remington and Mia are in Year 1 students and have a special talent in the visual arts.

Have a fabulous fortnight ahead.
