Reconciliation Week 2025: Bridging Now and Next

Reconciliation Week for 2025, themed "Bridging Now and Next," has been a significant and enriching experience for our school community.

Reconciliation Cup

In the lead-up to Reconciliation Week, we hosted the Reconciliation Cup between Saint Greg's and Kinross Wolaroi School (KWS). This event featured our 1st Rugby players wearing First Nations jerseys, a traditional dance performance, and a celebration of rugby, culture, and belonging. It was heartwarming to see both the girls and boys in the Indigenous program dance together, showcasing their cultural heritage.

Week-Long Activities

Reconciliation Week, held from 27 May to 3 June, included various activities to honour and celebrate First Nations cultures:

  • First Nations Themed Music: Each morning, First Nations themed music played through the speakers to mark the start of period 1.
  • Acknowledgement in Traditional Language: Kymarni Astill from Year 12 delivered an acknowledgement in traditional language at the start of the co-curricular assembly. Kymarni also spoke about the importance of Reconciliation in Australia, followed by Reverend Sally's prayer for Reconciliation.

Commemoration for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders

On Friday 30 May, the School was invited to a commemoration at Hyde Park for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders who served in war. Schools and dignitaries from around the state attended to acknowledge this significant occasion. It was a privilege to speak with ex-servicemen and women and hear their firsthand experiences. After the service, we visited the National Museum.

Student Performances

Our students, ranging from Year 7 to Year 11, performed a dance at the ANZAC Memorial that they had been practicing diligently. During rehearsals, they had the opportunity to perform in front of the Pre-Kindergarten students, who thoroughly enjoyed the performance and learning about the dance.

The students involved did an outstanding job, making their school and communities proud. We received numerous positive compliments from members of the community, highlighting the success and impact of their performances.

Reconciliation Week 2025 has truly been a time of reflection, learning, and celebration, bridging the past, present, and future.

Celebrating Our Senior Army Cadets

We proudly congratulate our senior Army Cadets on their exceptional Passing Out Parade and formal dinner held last week. The event was a fitting culmination of a year marked by dedication, leadership, and teamwork.

The parade was a standout display of precision and discipline, with high-quality drill work led by our Cadet Under Officers, Sergeants, and Corporals. Their performance reflected the countless hours of training and preparation they invested throughout the year.

The formal dinner was a memorable evening shared with officers, parents, and special guests—an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of our senior cadet leaders. It’s important to recognise that the planning and execution of the parade, along with all training activities, were entirely led by our cadet officers. Their initiative and leadership have been truly commendable.

We also extend our sincere thanks to the Cadet staff, whose tireless support and guidance have been instrumental in the success of the program. Your commitment continues to inspire and shape the leaders of tomorrow. Well done to all involved on a remarkable year!

As we approach the King’s Birthday long weekend, we extend our best wishes to all families within our school community. May this extended break provide a welcome opportunity for rest, reflection, and quality time with loved ones.
