Salvation Army

On Tuesday the 6th of May, PRC students attended the Salvation Army headquarters to gather more information about the travails of homelessness.
To begin with, students worked in a classroom with an instructor, learning about the most common sleeping conditions for homeless people, before being split into groups and analysing the possible reasons why different types of people might become homeless.
We were very pleased with how our students showed off their knowledge in this session, answering questions intelligently. Afterwards, we went on a little walk throughout the city, looking at different places (such as an old tram station and tree-covered parks) and thinking about what might make them an attractive space for homeless people to camp overnight.
Along the way, students looked at how the government actively discourages the homeless from sleeping on chairs and other surfaces, with bars and spikes, as an example of hostile architecture.
