As we step into December, the excitement of the end of the school year is certainly building  but our students continue to work hard and make the most of every learning opportunity. With just a few weeks to go, there is still plenty of rich learning happening across all centres, and we appreciate families continuing to support strong attendance. Every day really does count!

In the Foundation Learning Centre (FLC), students have been developing their subtraction skills. Families can support this at home by practising simple “take away” stories during everyday routines, for example, “We had 5 strawberries, you ate 2… how many are left?” These real-life moments help strengthen number sense. In reading, students are encouraged to keep practising their high-frequency words and enjoy the take-home books together each night. Celebrating their growing confidence and success at home makes a big difference to their progress.

Our Junior Learning Centre (JLC) students are continuing to strengthen their reading skills by learning to identify the author’s purpose and discuss the main idea of a text. They are practising how to recognise whether a text aims to inform, entertain, or persuade, and how language features, images and vocabulary influence the reader. These important critical literacy skills help students understand and analyse the messages they encounter in real-world texts. In maths, students are deepening their understanding of fractions through hands-on activities and problem-solving tasks.

Meanwhile, our Grade 6 students are preparing for their exciting transition to secondary school. This week, a group of students attended the Secondary School Transition Forum at Springvale Town Hall, where they explored the knowledge, confidence and social skills needed for a smooth and positive move into Year 7. With many more fun and engaging activities planned for the final weeks of term, including Graduation preparations, it is a wonderful time of celebration and reflection for our senior students.

As we approach the end of the year, we kindly remind all families of the importance of consistent attendance. Being at school every day ensures students continue to learn, stay connected and fully participate in the many end-of-year experiences ahead.

We look forward to a fantastic final few weeks of learning, celebration and community spirit!
