From the Year 4 Classroom

Only a few more weeks to go until we wrap up the year—and there’s still plenty happening. Here’s the latest as we head into the home stretch.
Maths: During Week 9, students will be exploring Mass and Capacity. They will take part in hands-on learning experiences using scales to measure the mass of objects in grams and kilograms, as well as comparing and ordering their measurements. Students will also work with measuring jugs to learn how to measure capacity in litresandmillilitres, investigating the capacity of a range of containers and ordering them accordingly.
To further support their understanding at home, you might encourage your child to help with cooking activities that involvemeasuring the mass and capacity of ingredients.
Literacy:Students will learn how poets use description to enhance the meaning of their poems. This week, they will specifically look at adding personification to their own poems. Personification means to add human characteristics to something non-human, such as an object, animal or abstract idea.
Inquiry: Students have been eagerly finishing off their continent projects, which they have presented as posters. We have been really impressed with the effort and quality that they have applied to these projects.
School Concert: Over the past week, our students have shown impressive dedication as they prepared for the school concert. Their hard work truly shone on concert night, as they performed with confidence and enthusiasm, creating a wonderful evening for families and staff. We are proud of their engaging performance and grateful to the ladies from ASPA for teaching the songs and actions, and to Miss Fountain for organising such a successful event.
Art: Students produced creative illustrations of rainforest animals within their natural habitats. They used coloured pencils or textas to colour the animals and habitat details and finished their artwork with a watercolour background.
