F-2 Athletics Morning
Thank you to all of the teachers and staff for making it a fun and engaging morning for the students, and to the parents and special visitors for being there to watch and support. Firstly, we would like to recognise our outstanding Year 6 leaders who assisted at each event. Your energy, organisation and positivity made such a difference, and we are so proud of the way you represented our school.
A big thank you to Nicole Emmerson and the P&F for the icy poles, and to Trev, our wonderful maintenance man, for giving us Stawell Gift–worthy lines on the oval. Thank you to Mrs. Flood for her organisation & support in the lead-up, and to Miss Barbetti for assisting with set-up on the day, along with the wonderful help of Mr Cramri, Mr. Ryan and Mr. Freeman. A great team effort- thank you!
We hope all the students had a wonderful time!
Sweat V Steam
On Sunday 16th November, we had a few students compete in the Sweat V Steam event in Echuca. "Sweat vs Steam" is an annual running event in Echuca, Victoria, where participants race to outrun the historic paddle steamer, ‘PS Pevensey’ along the Murray River.
Eadie Willis finished- 2nd in the 5km out of the many women that took to the start line!!
Sam Todd ran in the 1km dash!
Lotti Childs also began the 5km course, but took a detour and ran a couple of extra km’s- good work Lotti, it’s a scenic run and you just wanted a bit more of it.
Well done all!
SSV National Track & Field Competition & SSV Aquathlon State Championship
A huge congratulations to Milanke Haasbroek who competed at the National track and field championship last week. She ran incredibly well and even PB’d in her 800m. We hope you enjoyed all aspects of the Team Vic environment. Also, well done on competing up age groups in the SSV Aquathon and placing 6th and earning yourself a spot at Nationals next year!
Congratulations Milanke on an outstanding year.
Track & Field Nationals and SSV Aquathlon States
On Thursday, 27 November, I went to Canberra to compete at the National Track and Field Championships. I ran the 1500m and came 6th. I was really happy with that because it was a tough race! It was hot and super windy, and some tents even blew over!
The next day, there was a mix-up with my 800m time, which put me in 9th place, so I just missed the final. Our team manager appealed, and on Saturday they said all the 9th-placed runners could go through, but we had already booked our flight home. At least I got a little bit of rest before the State Aquathlon in Shepparton on Sunday.
The Aquathlon was early Sunday morning, and it was cold. There were lots of girls in my race, including some older ones. The swim was in open water, which was crowded, and I got pulled by the shoulder a few times. I didn’t find my rhythm until halfway through the swim, but after that I ran really hard and finished 6th in the 13–14 age group. I qualified to go to Nationals next year in Queensland!
Competing in both events was challenging but really fun, and it was great to see friends I’ve made through sports.

State Cricket
Last week, the Grade 6 Girls cricket team, travelled to Melbourne to compete at the state cricket tournament. We left Bendigo at 6:30am and arriving about 9:00am. Our first game was at 10:30am so we had plenty of time to warm up and check out the opposition. We were freezing because the weather was quite cold, not ideal weather for playing cricket, but we managed.
Our first game was against St Josephs which was a tight game we only lost by seven runs. There were some controversial no balls, which were unfortunately allowed as ‘fair balls’ although they were coming in well above head height. But we didn’t let it get the better of us and regrouped for the next game against Preston, where we had a huge win, the score was 163-91.
Our last game in the rounds was against St Bernards who were a tiny bit stronger than us, beating us by 30 runs. Our final game was to play off against Cheltenham for fifth best in the state, we won this game 104-73. On the way home we all travelled in separate cars with our parents and coincidently met up at Calder Park Maccas for a celebration feast. We’re happy with coming fifth in the state out of 2300 schools, but all of this couldn’t have happened without our coaches.
A big thankyou to Mrs Zealley, Mr Hartney, Mrs Coates for all your coaching and support and to Mr Taylor for helping to pick teams at the beginning and of course the girls that contributed to make the team get to states.

Congratulations, girls, what a wonderful achievement to make it to the State Championship! You played incredibly well and in the spirit of the game, we’re very proud of you all.
A big thank you to Mr Taylor for assisting with the selection trials, Mr Hartney for coaching the girls, his tactical genius really showed as the girls dominated at fielding and Mrs Zealley for her support throughout. We are very grateful for the time, guidance, and encouragement you have all provided. And we can’t forget our wonderful parents, who took the time to take their children to the event and supported and cheered the whole day!
PE Awards
Each assembly week, we present a tuck shop award.
The criterion for receiving these awards is very straightforward. Students demonstrating outstanding sportsmanship, effort, and attitude will be the prime candidates for these awards.
