Principal Reflections

From the Principals - Alison & Pete

Dear Parents & Friends,

Welcome

We warmly welcome Father Roel Llave to the St. Edward's community. Father Roel is the new Parish Administrator of the St. Edward's Parish. We look forward to working with Father Roel in the future.

School Survey

The student, parent and staff satisfaction survey results arrived last week. The responses by our school community were extremely positive and affirming for all of us and we appreciate your feedback.

While there were many positive comments, some clear themes were present overall. It is great to read that our parents value:

# The atmosphere and the caring, nurturing nature of our school community.

# The high regard for the education experience that is delivered.

# That their children are constantly supported to be the best version of themselves.

# That the school is well resourced in the classrooms and on the playgrounds.

# The reading culture across the whole school.

Areas of growth and improvement in this survey included:

# Further communication of strategies to help parents support their child at home.

# More open learning or parent walks.

# Easier parking options to improve access to school.

# Try and streamline and simplify communication.

Again thank you for your time in completing the survey. We appreciate your feedback and will actively work to support the continuous improvement of St Edward's School.

Screen Time

Screen time and digital technology can be a part of a healthy lifestyle when it's balanced with other activities. This includes physical activity, creative play, reading, socialising and getting enough uninterrupted sleep. Some of these tips may be helpful to parents to ensure a healthy balance:

# Encourage active play with others.

# Co-develop rules about screen time.

# Avoid screen time before bed.

# Aim for short sharp screen time sessions with active breaks.

Year 6 Excursion

Next week our Year 6 students travel to Canberra for their annual excursion. They will be visiting places like Australian Parliament House, Old Parliament House - Electoral Education Centre, National Capital Exhibition, Australian War Memorial, National Arboretum, National Museum of Australia, Royal Australian Mint, Questacon and the Australian Institute of Sport, it is sure to be an action packed week. We would like to thank our Year 6 teachers for their work in planning such a significant event and we wish you all a safe and enjoyable excursion.

Keep smiling,

Alison Hatton and Pete Flynn
