Victorian President's Report

Tina King- APF Victorian President

Many of you are currently navigating sensitive political landscapes all whilst managing the organisational and operational demands that this term traditionally presents.  Despite the demands, we are continually inspired by the level of optimism and high commitment demonstrated by school leaders.

I was conversing with a colleague recently who referenced school leaders as ‘educational architects.’   When I asked him to elaborate on the term, he without hesitation stated that principals are the catalysts for a thriving learning ecosystem, tasked with fostering a culture of curiosity, resilience and excellence.

I reflected for a moment at the strength of his words and statement for it took some time for me to truly digest. By nature and disposition, school leaders often find it challenging to accept praise due to humility and their strong focus on collective achievement. The work however, that you undertake each and every day is nothing short of remarkable and you truly are educational architects, playing a crucial role in designing and shaping the educational environment, curriculum and learning experiences in your school.

With only a few weeks to go until the close of the school year, workload pressures and demands will prevail, however please remember that this time of the year also affords opportunity for reflection and celebration.

It is important that you afford yourself the time to enjoy and celebrate together with your school community on all that has been achieved despite the competing demands and challenges.  As Henry Grossek states in his memory box article that is enclosed, it is important to notice the sunshine in our schools.
