SPECIALISTS ARE SO SPECIAL AT GREENHILLS ART IN THE SPOTLIGHT

At our school we are so grateful for the amazing opportunities our students have across all of our specialist subjects. These programs offer such a variety of learning, experiences and they open up options for our students to find and explore things that they both enjoy doing and can showcase their talents.

This week we feature our Art program. The first photo highlights our Year 2’s collaborating to make a huge 3D city. The other two photos are incredible landscapes created by our Year 4’s. These were inspired by Indigenous Artist Bronwyn Bancroft. Thank you to Andrea Williams and Sarah Leach for your incredible energy and inspiration that delivers such a high-quality Art program to all of our students across the school.

MINI FAIR EXCITEMENT BUILDING

On Friday 24th November we will be hosting our very own Mini Fair. This is an initiative of our Junior School Council. This group of student leaders raised the concern that due to Covid restrictions and our building program, many of our students have not experienced the very special event that is our Greenhills Spring Fair. This event is part of the culture and celebration of our school community, and it means a lot to our students in terms of their connection to Greenhills.

So together with our JSC, we will operate a miniature and small-scale version between lunchtime and the end of the day on Friday 24th November. Like the bigger Spring Fair, each class will set up a stall and students will be able to bring their money to purchase items, experiences and have fun at the same time. Example stalls might include nails, hair spray, sponge throwing at staff members, lucky dips and even food. Our Year 5’s & 6’s will also operate their Earn & Learn Businesses so there will be a massive range of stalls to enjoy.

More information will be sent home over the next few weeks including ways that you can support this initiative by donating items to stalls and assisting on the day. If you have any questions or ideas, please let me know:

WEARING OUR SCHOOL UNIFORM WITH PRIDE!

I love the way that our school has so many uniform options for our students and when we are all decked out in accordance with our Uniform Policy, our school looks magnificent. This is friendly reminder that all students must be dressed in line with our policy each day. At times, we notice a variety of other items being worn, for example outside of school local football club hoodies or even items that are not our school colours. I know that the cooler weather and the rain can impact on washing and laundry at home and that it can be difficult to keep up with it all. With that in mind, if any student needs to wear an item that is not part of our school uniform, a letter from a parent or carer must be provided to the teacher outlining the reason for this. If you are having any difficulties in organising school uniform items for your child, please contact the office or myself. For me, wearing full school uniform is all about pride in our school and being part of our GREAT team.

END OF YEAR ARRANGEMENTS

With so much happening over the next couple of weeks, here is some important information to assist your family with planning for the end of the school year and the rush into the Christmas:

Meet the Teacher #1  9.15am – 10.45am Thursday 7th December (*including 2024 Preps between 9.30am and 10.30am)

Meet the Teacher #2  9.15am – 10.45am Tuesday 12th December (*note not 2024 Preps)

Semester Two Reports – sent home via Compass on Wednesday 13th December

Class of 2023 Graduation – Thursday 14th December

Final Assembly – Farewell Year 6’s – Friday 15th December

Tuesday 19th December – STUDENTS DO NOT ATTEND. This is a Professional Practice Day for staff. This is part of the Victorian Government Agreement where schools are able to hold a common day for all staff. We have selected this day as late in the term as possible (as opposed to an earlier day this term) to minimize the interruption to student learning.

Wednesday 20th December – school will finish at 1pm (No Assembly).

In making these arrangements, we will ensure that all class parties and special events are held on or prior to Friday 15th December. This will mean that students who do not attend on Wednesday 20th for the short day will not miss out on anything.

Whilst our school office is always open on school days between 8.15am and 4.15pm, we will not be accepting any parent payments after Friday 15th December. This will provide time for the end of school year financial and administration processes to be completed.

Good luck to our Year 4 Campers and of course our Year 2

students with their late night this Friday!

Cheers,
