Stage 2

A message from Stage 2

We are over halfway through the term already. It feels like the finish line is coming up fast!

Stage 2 classes are very excited about visiting Thalgarrah with some classes having already visited. Students will be engaging in activities to develop their understanding of living things and sustainability, with a focus on life cycles. Please make sure you have filled in the permission note and paid for your child to attend if they are yet to attend this week. Information can be found on School Bytes.

NAIDOC Week

In Week 3, BVPS celebrated NAIDOC week with a variety of tasks. Students participated in a range of Aboriginal activities including bark scratching, digital artworks, eating Johnny cakes and participating in a performance of a traditional Torres Strait Island dance and song called Sesere Eeye, accompanied by students on didgeridoo, drums, and clap sticks. The week was bookended by two brilliant ceremonies to recognise the theme of the week, ‘For Our Elders’.

Poetry

This week, students are beginning a unit of work on poetry. They are learning to identify and utilise a variety of poetic devices. They will learn to recognise how their own contexts affect the way they respond to and compose texts. At the conclusion of the unit, students will have the opportunity to develop their own poem based on a curious object of their choice. They are encouraged to bring in an object that is of significance to them. Please ensure it is an object they are comfortable leaving at school and are happy to show to other students. This might include artworks, souvenirs, handmade objects, or gadgets.

Mathematics

Students are benefiting from Stage 2 maths groups, interacting with different students and participating in activities focused closely on their individual needs. It has been fabulous to see the improvement in multiplicative strategies knowledge and application this year.

Our Stage 2 community are looking forward to finishing the year productively, with a positive attitude and resilience.
