A message from Early Stage 1

This term, students are learning about ways to be safe. This includes being safe around water, in the sun, on the farm, when riding bikes or scooters and fire safety. To supplement our learning, we have scheduled a visit from the Rural Fire Service (RFS) on Friday 3 November. The RFS will visit us at school and there is no cost for students to attend. As we are already in bushfire season, this service may be needed elsewhere. If this occurs, we will postpone the scheduled visit.

Thalgarrah

On Monday 23 October, KE and KF visited Thalgarrah Environmental Education Center. They had a wonderful time and learnt many new things. Here are some writing samples from the students about their day:

Yesterday KF and KG caught the bus to Thalgarrah for a Teddy Bears Picnic. The first thing we did was go up the stairs to see the bearded dragon. Then we gave food to the bearded dragon.

Helping your child with mathematics

There are many ways you can encourage your child to engage in play-based learning centred around mathematics. Board games and card games teach number recognition and reinforce counting.

English

We are learning to:

  • hear and say the sound /ay/
  • recognise that two letters making one sound are called digraphs
    • ‘ay’ makes the sound /ay/, as in ‘play’
  • read tricky words: come, some
  • create written texts that include 2 related ideas
  • pack before the noun when writing simple sentences

Mathematics

We are learning to:

  • recognise, describe and copy repeating patterns
  • use and understand terms related to time
  • share into equal groups by dealing
  • make equal groups

Integrated Learning

We are learning to:

  • understand that living things have basic needs
  • identify different ways that animals and plants obtain water

Personal Development and Health (PDH)

We are learning to identify:

  • ways we can be safe when riding bikes
  • actions we can take to be safe around fires

Visual Arts

We are learning to:

  • view and interpret how Eric Carle made the artwork illustrations in the book 'The Mixed Up Chameleon'
  • create an artwork using the techniques and materials of Eric Carle

Reminders

Please return home readers every Friday.

Students need to have a broad brimmed hat and water bottle every day at school.

Please phone the office or email your child’s class teacher if your child is absent from school.
