Textiles News 2023
Lots happening and still continuing.
It has been an exciting time for us. We have been designing, problem solving and developing and creating textile products during this year. I have worked with amazing and talented students in Year 12, 11, 10, 9 and 7.
Fashion through the Ages.
Inaugural Parkdale SC Fashion show.
The Year 11 students as part of their unit 2 outcome needed to present work in collaboration. They were proud to be able to set up this showcase that present works by our young people from Years 9 to 11.
Technology Learning Area is an integral part to our whole school learning curriculum, where our young people build their skills in creative and critical thinking and Design Thinking and the Design Process. The Design Process which embeds both literacy and numeracy components allows students to make better and stronger connections with their skills that are transferable to future pathways.
The fashion showcase has a key focus on Sustainability that shall continue into the future in this ever-changing world where students navigate and learn to be great global citizens developing skills to improve their future.
It wonderful that our Guest speaker, Alana Goldberg is a former student of Parkdale SC, graduating in 2011. She studied Studio Art and Textiles to Year 12 and achieved a study score of over 40 in her VCE Product Design & Technology. Alana has had an amazing journey since leaving Parkdale and shared her inspiring story. She developed skills in the textiles industry that has now led her into a career as an occupational therapist using her textiles knowledge and problem-solving skills to assist her in this challenging and rewarding career.

Parkdale Preschool Designing for a Client year 9 and year 10 Textiles students.
Description/Educative Purpose:
The Students have been designing for others as part of a partnership with Parkdale Family and Children's Centre that is next to Parkdale Secondary College. As part of the student’s assessment, the students develop a design brief involving another person and making something for other people. The students interview 3 and 4-year-old students. Attached are the photos from the interview.
