International Student Update

Visitors from South Korea
On 12 November, we welcomed seven Year 11 students from Daeli Tourism High school of South Korea. They joined the class with our Year 9 students from the SEAL program.
Miss Kate Duggan, the mentor teacher, started with the activity of "Human Bingo". Three of our students introduced themselves and their hobbies and school life in Australia. Ms Duggan talked about the history and relationship between Australia and Korea. The class ended by learning the "Nutbush Dance".
After class, all the students met in the International Language Centre for morning tea. They tasted ANZAC biscuits, lamingtons, crackers and vegemite.
Our Assistance Principal conducted a school tour and we exchanged gifts before they left. Everyone had a wonderful time and huge thanks to Miss Duggan, Ms Podesser and in particular, Mr Tae Kim, our Maths teacher as an interpreter.
ILC City Experience 06/11/2024
Last Wednesday our ILC students had a City Experience excursion. This event was a great opportunity for newly arrived students to see and explore local attractions of interest, including Flinders Street Station, Chinatown, Federation Square, ACMI and the National Gallery of Victoria. The students learnt how to use light rail and were given the task of practising their English with locals. The event was very productive and we would like to share some of the photos and the feedback from student Jerry, who only just arrived in Australia last month:
"Yesterday, I went on a city walk with my ILC classmates and teacher. In the morning, we met at Mordialloc Station. And after 40 minutes by train, we arrived at Flinders Street Station, which is a key transportation hub in the city. The building looks very ancient and it gave me a sense of the last century. Just across from the station is Federation Square. There was a huge screen to show the videos and images. ACMI is located there. The ACMI, where we visited an exhibition of film, digital culture, and photography’s history. Nearby ACMI, was the Ian Potter Centre to show Australian art at the National Gallery of Victoria. We saw many paintings and sculptures there. Then we went to Hosier Lane to see some graffiti. There was lots of different graffiti on the walls of the alley, and many people were taking photos. While passing the Princes Bridge, we saw the Yarra River and Victorian Arts Centre. We crossed the bridge and we arrived at Southgate, a dining and shopping area along the water. Then we had lunch there. After dining, we went back to the station and walked another way to see Degraves Street. There are many kinds of restaurants at both sides of the street, and we walked in a buzzing atmosphere. Past the end of the street, we visited the Royal Arcade and The Block Arcade. These two places are so bustling, and the goods here are very expensive. After shopping, we went to Chinatown, and we brought some food there. Not far away, we wrote our travel notes at the State Library of Victoria. Then we went back home from Melbourne Central."
