Acting Assistant Principal Update

Thursday 14 November 2024

Dear Families, Students and Community Members,

As we approach the final stages of the 2024 academic year, we find ourselves at the pointy end of the calendar with many milestones being reached. Our Year 7–9 benchmark assessments have now concluded, and students will shift their focus to preparing for next week’s Student-Led Conferences. Year 10 and 11 students have kicked off their exams, while VCAA exams for our senior students are nearing completion.

It has been a particularly busy term for teaching and learning, and I am proud of the way our students have committed themselves and stayed focused to reach this point. The dedication from both students and staff continues to highlight the positive culture of learning at Mordialloc College. Thank you to everyone for your hard work and resilience as we move into the final stretch!

Here are some particular areas I would like to highlight:

Honouring Remembrance Day

This week, Mordialloc College commemorated Remembrance Day with some of our newly appointed school leaders proudly representing the school at a local service. They joined the community in paying tribute to the bravery and sacrifices of those who lost their lives in service to our country.

At 11 am, our entire school paused as all learning stopped for a minute of silence, with the music of The Last Post playing across the campus. This moment of reflection allowed students and staff to honour the legacy of those who served. We are immensely proud of the respect and maturity shown by our student leaders and the school community as a whole. We join in saying: We will remember them.

Awards Night

We are excited to announce that the Mordialloc College Awards Night will be held on Monday, 2nd December. Invitations for students selected to attend this event will be sent to families soon.

For students who receive an award but are not invited to the Awards Night, presentations will be made at the final year-level assembly. We look forward to celebrating the hard work and achievements of all our students as we wrap up another fantastic year at Mordialloc College!

Year 10 and 11 Exams Begin Smoothly

This week, Year 10 and 11 students at Mordialloc College began their end-of-year exams, and we are pleased to report a smooth start. Students arrived prepared and focused, and the sessions have been well-organised, thanks to the efforts of both our teachers and support staff. These exams provide an important opportunity for students to demonstrate their understanding of the year’s learning and to practise the skills they’ll need in their future studies.

We wish all of our Year 10 and 11 students the best as they continue their exams, and we appreciate the commitment they’ve shown throughout the year.

Teaching and Learning highlights – EAL

In the Language Centre, our new arrival students have just finished reading an extended text, ‘Red Dog’, and are writing a text response essay. They are developing skills in structuring and developing a sustained piece of writing, supporting ideas with relevant evidence, and using connecting phrases to show relationships between information.
