YEAR 10-12 NEWS

Year 11
Yr 11 Visual Communication Design Excursion - Geelong Design Week
Year 10 students starting their 2025 year 11 studies in Visual Communication Design visited two exhibitions as part of Geelong Design Week on Wednesday morning. Students joined the artist Dr Merinda Kelly and sound artist Dr Fiona Phillips in the Deakin Library Exhibition space to collaborate and co-design the 'Radial Re-cycling' artwork.
Students used the curated collection of thousands of discarded objects to contribute to the ever-changing radial artwork in response to the provocation 'What if we already have enough to co-create a sustainable and socially just future in Geelong?'
Students also visited the 'Process' exhibition of architecture student built environment designs at A+B Gallery in the Deakin Waterfront School of Architecture, also part of Geelong Design Week.
Message to Yr 11's
Well done to all students who attended the Early Commencement Program over the past four days. All the students worked well and have stepped up to requirements of their final year of schooling.
If any students is yet to complete their VCE contract, can they please have them returned to the admin office ASAP.
For all year 12’s, there will be a camp early in the year to Ballarat to help set up 2025 and a big year!
We wish you all a safe and relaxing break (and a reminder to finish your holiday homework!) and we can’t wait to see you all again next year!
Year 12
92 students attended the GMHBA stadium for graduation, with over 400 parents and family members there to watch the proceedings. It was an excellent night, and it was great to see the students and families enjoy the festivities.
A special thanks to Vanessa for her organisation of the evening, Lily Fowler for putting together the presentation of the years photos, and all the other staff in attendance and who completed a job to help the evening run smoothly.
It was particularly special to listen to our Alumni, Majd Aleas, whom spoke from the heart about his journey as a christian escaping war-torn Iraq, moving to Türkiye, and eventually Australia. He attended WHC in year 10 after learning English, and finished his VCAL with an apprenticeship as a barber. His message of "don’t give up and follow your dreams" to the year 12 graduates and everyone in the venue was genuine, and he received undivided attention from those of us lucky enough to hear.
Congratulations to the 99 WHC graduates and good luck in your future endeavours (and well done to the families for their support through the stress of year 12!)
~ Brett Bullock.
On behalf of the entire Year 12 graduating class and the school community, we would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Majid for being our guest speaker at this year's graduation ceremony.
A story of triumph and success, how one young man overcome extreme adversity to follow his dream of becoming a qualified barber. Your speech was truly inspirational and touched our hearts deeply. Your words of wisdom and encouragement have left a lasting impression and have motivated us to look forward with confidence to the future.
We are grateful for the time and effort you took to share your experiences and insights. Your presence added a special touch to our celebration, making it even more meaningful. Thank you once again for being such an important part of our special day.
~ Vanessa Hucker.
