Year 2

Scienceworks Excursion

On Monday the 28th of October, the students from Year 2 including 1/2C all went on an excursion to Scienceworks.

The students eagerly participated in the programs; ‘Blast Off: Mission to Mars’, ‘Toys and Forces Show’, ‘Tycho Goes to Mars’ and the ‘What’s in the sky?’ presentation.  Throughout the day, they:

- used toys to develop imagination and physical skills

- developed valuable insights into physics concepts

- investigated the actions of forces such as push and pull in the working of different toys       and a journey to Mars

- learned about the major features of Mars, including the ancient volcano Olympus Mons     and the canyons of the Valles Marineras

- viewed live demonstrations of how rockets work, what it might be like to be in space

- participated in discussions and demonstrations about landing on Mars

- learned about the main principle of rocket propulsion and life in space

- thought of themselves as scientists and problem solvers who might one day help with         space exploration.

All students are to be congratulated for showing our School Values out in the community. They truly demonstrated that Greenvale kids are GREAT kids. The Year 2 Team would also like to thank our parent helpers, Sasha, Forough and Ozlem for attending!
