Year 1/2
ll A letter from the 1/2 team
Dear 1/2 families,
What a year! We would like to take a moment to say a huge thank you to all of you for your ongoing support, your communication and your kindness. We are so lucky to have such wonderful families in our community, who are so willing to help and get involved.
We have had such an awesome year, we are incredibly proud of each any every single one of our students.. they have achieved so much and they have made a lot of growth in so many ways.
We hope you all have a beautiful Christmas, a happy new year.. and hopefully a little bit of time off to spend with your wonderful children!
All the best,
Miss Rhodes, Miss Cook, Mrs White, Mrs Jones & Mrs Edwards
English
Over the past few weeks, the 1/2s have been reading Matilda by Roald Dahl. They have explored the characters in depth, they have continued to build their vocabulary and they have practised the reading strategy - Visualising. The students were immersed in this wonderful story from start to finished, always asking to read more and more when a chapter was finished. They are really proud of the work they have completed around this story and we're sure they would love to share it with you.
Maths
As we see out the year, the 1/2s have been brushing up on their shape, place value and number fact knowledge. Students have played a range of fun and engaging games, which has enhanced their team work skills and fluency. Over the next week or so, we will be putting a Christmas lens on our maths work, we think the kids will really enjoy it!
1/2 Stay Late
We are thrilled to share that our recent "Stay Late" event was a fantastic success, and it wouldn’t have been possible without your generous support and the enthusiasm of our wonderful students!
Event Highlights:
- Obstacle Course: The students showcased their agility and teamwork as they navigated through a fun and challenging obstacle course. It was great to see everyone encouraging each other and having a blast!
- Kahoot Quiz on Matilda: Our interactive Kahoot quiz based on the beloved book Matilda was both educational and entertaining. The students demonstrated impressive knowledge and competitive spirit.
- Silent Disco: The silent disco was a hit! Equipped with glow sticks, the students danced up a storm to their favourite tunes, creating a vibrant and joyful atmosphere.
- Movie Time – Leo: We enjoyed watching the heartwarming movie Leo, which provided a perfect blend of entertainment and valuable life lessons.
- Snacks and Dinner: Popcorn was a favourite during the movie, and for dinner, we served delicious sausages in bread. The evening concluded with the sweet treat of Zooper Doopers, leaving everyone with smiles on their faces.
The enthusiasm and participation from all the students made the evening truly memorable. We are grateful for the community spirit, smiles and laughter that everyone brought to the event.
Concert
We'd like to say a huge congratulations to all of our wonderful 1/2 students on their efforts at our amazing school concert! After weeks of practising, singing and dancing - they brought the energy, the passion and the pazzazz!
Another massive thank you to our parents for the awesome costumes and support from home.
Christmas and End of Year Celebrations
It's the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is in full swing at Moriac Primary School, the cheeky elves have arrived and they have wreaked havoc in our classrooms, the kids are loving it... the teachers not so much!!
Our wonderful 1/2 Stay Late was our way of celebrating the end of the year, however we will have an extra special day on Thursday the 19th of December where we will turn our classrooms into a cinema and have watch a Christmas movie! We will also celebrate with some fun Christmas activities and games. Students can wear a touch of Christmas on this day!
