Biology Incursion - BioLAB
This term, the Year 10 Biology class was lucky enough to have staff from BioLab transform our science room into a perfect replicate of a molecular lab.
The students worked on preparing gels for gel electrophoresis, analysing DNA samples from athletes for the ACTN3 gene. This gene has two common alleles: one associated with sprinters and the other with endurance athletes.
Our students ran the gels to determine the genotypes of their samples and matched these to the phenotypes of the athletes as either marathon runners or sprinters.
This provided our Year 10 Biology students with a fantastic opportunity to draw connections between their learning and real-world applications. Their comprehension of human genetics was commendable, and each student produced excellent gel results. The gels were free of contaminants and demonstrated the students' careful preparation for their work. BioLab staff praised our students for their outstanding behaviour, politeness, following instructions diligently and achieving excellent results!
Congratulations to our budding molecular scientists from Year 10 Biology for being exceptional and aspiring to achieve!

Celebrating Chinese Traditional Sports with Year 8 Students
Our Year 8 students studying Chinese recently had the unique opportunity to engage in traditional Chinese sports activities, deepening their understanding of Chinese culture beyond the classroom. Students enthusiastically participated in two classic games: rēng shābāo (扔沙包), or beanbag tossing, and jianzǐ (毽子), also known as shuttlecock. This hands-on experience allowed them to actively connect with traditional Chinese sports that have been enjoyed for generations. Throughout the session, students showcased impressive teamwork and spirit as they embraced the challenge and fun of these activities. It was inspiring to see their appreciation for a different aspect of Chinese culture!

Year 9 Phillip Island Camp
This term Year 9 students had an amazing getaway to Phillip Island to celebrate the end of their junior years of schooling. Students enjoyed sightseeing at Cape Woolamai, Pyramid Rocks at Berry's Beach and the town of Cowes, as well as trying their hand at surfing at Smith's Beach, bowling and laser tag, fishing, cooking dinner and experiencing a tour of the Nobbies Centre where everyone was on the look out for Australian fur seals and penguins. Thank you to the staff for helping the students create lifelong memories and enjoy great times with their peers!

Sports Update
On 7th November, the Year 7 boys' volleyball team travelled to Geelong for the Western Metropolitan Region competition, where the top eight teams from the west competed. Our team dominated the day and came out on top, winning the tournament!
Congratulations also to the Year 8 Girls Volleyball team who are also Western Metro Region Champions after their competition was played on 8th November!
A huge thank you to Mr Eugenio and Miss Adam for supporting the students to achieve such success! Their dedication to the volleyball program is unmatched, and the work they both put in to getting the students game-day ready really showed. These wins wouldn’t have been possible without their hard work and commitment.
Lastly, we acknowledge our students for their excellent sportsmanship and for representing the college so well. Their hard work, respect for the game, and team spirit were key to these achievements. They truly made us proud!
