Hi Sportsfans
St Louis de Montfort's win the Victorian State Cricket Championship!
On Friday, our boy's cricket team travelled to the Junction Oval to play a round robin competition against seven other schools from around the state to decide the top team for 2024. In the preliminary rounds we defeated :
They were all very convincing wins and we went into the grand final with a mix of nerves and confidence. We now had to play the top team in pool B, Mount View PS (Glen Waverley) for the state title.
The key to playing well in T20 Blast Cricket is for the bowlers to keep hitting the right length, the fielders to keep the pressure on and the batsmen to swing at anything loose.
Of the twenty plus games we played in 2024, we saved our best for last. We bowled brilliantly, took our catches, hit the stumps in the field and our batting was unbelievable. When Leo hit a six over the pavilion and Joel took a blinder at mid on, it was always going to be our game.
The scores were 333 to 99 and we had ten very happy boys. And deservedly so. Their strengths lay deeper than just being able to play cricket very well. They look after each other all of the time. They celebrate the good plays. They talk strategies, such as field placements, constantly and mistakes are greeted with a pat on the back and words of encouragement. "Don't worry, we'll get the next one". "That's alright, you did well to get there".
When you play sport surrounded by a culture of such acceptance, you take risks, strive to be better and really enjoy the sport. To Leo (captain), Patrick (co-vice), Tom (co-vice), Aidan, Wes, Joshua, Cooper, Marcus, Joel and big Rex - the school could not be prouder!
Thank you Dani Gill for co-coaching with me throughout the year. Your insights and your knowledge of the team paid a big part of the success.
I would like to thank the families for supporting the boys not only on the day, but also throughout the year. The ride sharing, the cheering on from the boundary and then making sure those lads were ready to play were all bigcontributors to the end result. Thank you for the way you have raised these boys, they are a great bunch.
Yours in sport
Dean Andrew
