This week in Reading, we are learning to summarise a fiction text.
VOCABULARY
Summarise -
telling the most important parts of a text, in your own words, in a much shorter way
Fiction -
books that are made up, imaginative or pretend.
Sequence - in order
Events - something that happens
Characters - a person in a story; either a human, a fantasy character, mythical character, or even an animal.
Setting - where a story or event takes place.
Problem - something that has gone wrong that needs to be fixed.
Solution - solving the problem
ACTIVITIES YOU CAN DO AT HOME TO SUPPORT YOUR CHILD'S LEARNING
Get your child to talk about what a fiction text that they’ve read.Then they can summarise the correct sequence of events in a fiction text Prompt them to use proper vocabulary from the text read, like characters, setting, problem and solution in the summary of a fiction text.
This activity can be done orally and/ or by drawing the pictures to represent their thinking and adding labels. Students can summarise orally to a sibling/ family member/ pet or their favourite toy.
