What’s Been Happening in Science!

Hydrogen-Powered RC Car Grand Prix

This term began with an incredible achievement – two of our student teams competed in the Victorian finals of the Hydrogen-Powered RC Car Grand Prix.

Over a gruelling four-hour race against 17 other teams, our students demonstrated outstanding teamwork, problem-solving, and perseverance.

It was inspiring to see their confidence grow throughout the lead-up to the race, and we couldn’t have been prouder of their efforts on the day.

While we narrowly missed out on qualifying for the world finals, both teams are already looking ahead to 2026, determined to return stronger and faster!

Year 9 Robotics – Preparing for First Lego League

Building on their Semester 1 robotics skills, our Year 9 students are now preparing for the First Lego League competition in November.

As part of their preparation, they attended an exciting workshop at KIOSC, where they were mentored by none other than “Brickmaster Ryan” from Season 3 of Lego Masters. With inspiration like that, they’re ready to take their creativity and engineering skills to the next level!

Year 7 – Biodiversity at Melbourne Zoo

Our Year 7 students explored the wonders of biodiversity and animal classification during their visit to Melbourne Zoo.

Tasked with investigating an animal’s unique adaptations and presenting their findings in a poster, students enthusiastically engaged with the exhibits – a fantastic opportunity to bring classroom learning to life.

Year 10 – Genetics in Action

In Science, our Year 10 students have been diving into the fascinating world of genetics.

From designing their own “vegetable people” to exploring real-world applications at KIOSC – including insights into the crucial field of cancer screening – they’ve gained a deeper understanding of how genetics shapes our world.

Industry Partnerships – Coca-Cola Collaboration

Fifteen of our Year 10 students are continuing to develop an exciting partnership with Coca-Cola.

Their second visit to the Moorabbin manufacturing plant gave them an inside look at real-world logistics challenges and how innovation drives one of the world’s biggest companies.

This partnership provides an invaluable link between classroom learning and real-world problem solving.
