Principal's Report

Dear Parents, Carers, Students, and Staff,

As I write this newsletter article, I reflect on how our students continue to shine.  Their attitude, application, and thirst for learning, supported by their parents and carers, along with strong scaffolding and extension from their teachers; has enabled many of our students to excel.

This year, we have acknowledged Scoresby Secondary College students for their VCE achievements, excellent performances at numerous and varied state and world competitions, and now; I am pleased to congratulate our students for their extremely strong NAPLAN growth across all areas from Year 7 to Year 9.

Our student’s enthusiasm for opportunities was evidenced by their participation in the full range of events at the athletics carnival held on Tuesday 5 August.  It was pleasing to see students dressed in their house colours, eagerly competing in official and novelty events, wearing their ribbons proudly, and cheering on their peers with enthusiasm throughout the day.

On Tuesday19 August during our Multicultural Day celebrations, it was very pleasing to see so many students and staff dress in clothing of cultural significance for them.

Staff prepared and brought in cultural dishes to share for morning tea and discussed the significance and customs for their cuisine.

During the multicultural assembly, both students and staff performed cultural pieces, displaying many hidden talents and impressing the audience with their diversity of skills.  As always, students were respectful and encouraging.  Thank you to Ms Su-Nhi Kim for her excellent organisation of our multicultural day.

Wednesday 27 August, will see our VET Music students tour several primary schools in the endeavour to experience the logistics of touring and responses to their performances from various audiences.

Thank you to Mr Jacob Long and Mr Chris Schurmann for their support of our VET students, both from Scoresby Secondary College and network schools. I wish the students a day full of exciting experiences.

Learning Conferences are scheduled for Monday 1 September, where students, parents and carers will meet with teachers to ensure that students are best supported and extended.  As students are at the centre of their learning, they are to be present at each of the learning conferences. This partnership with their teachers and families will support students to maximise their learning.

To enable full time workers to attend the conferences, bookings will be available from 12.00pm to 7.30pm.

To facilitate student attendance, no classes will operate on Monday 1 September. Students are expected to accompany their parents and carers and they do not need to be in school uniform at the learning conferences. Bookings can be made via Compass from Monday 25 August.

Course information evenings were held over the past few weeks with the final course selections due online by Friday 29 August.

For 2026, we have broadened elective choices at Years 9 & 10 and continue to offer a broad range of VCE subjects.

Thank you to the many students who along with their parents and carers, and course counsellors, have discussed and explored suitable programs aligned with their aspirations; and have already submitted their course selections.
