Principal's News

Where every child is known, challenged and supported to be lifelong learners.

Dear Parents and Friends,

Australian Catholic Education Conference

This week I am attending the Australian Catholic Education Conference in Cairns. This conference has brought Catholic Principals together from all over Australia and New Zealand. The conference has been broken into six domains:

Excellence - where speakers talked to us about how to continue to improve students' learning through the Vision for Instruction model.

Wellbeing - how to continue to support our children and families' wellbeing

Faith and Family Engagement - discussion on our role to support families, students and staff in deepening their faith.

Faith - the role of school in developing faith leaders, school-parish partnerships and faith formation.

Access and Governance - The future of Catholic Education and how schools and school leaders can support.

Workforce and Wellbeing - looking at how to support staff and leaders' wellbeing

It has been a wonderful experience so far. I have attended lectures on literacy and numeracy, focusing on how to improve our results, our wellbeing landscape, family formation, inspiring hope, and educational excellence, among other topics.

The message coming from these speakers is that if we get all the elements right—student wellbeing, student engagement, and family-school partnerships — we will see improvement in academic growth.

It also consolidated for me that as a school we are on the right path and we are all working hard together to make sure our children feel safe, happy and confident at school.

Book Week

Our book week celebrations started on Monday with our Book Week Parade - and what an assortment of characters we had! Thank you to all children and staff who ‘dressed up’ for the occasion. Our celebrations continue with a family group activity on Friday, as well as a visit next week from the author of Old Tom - Leigh Hobbs. We can’t wait to hear what he has to say!

Hats off to Miss Eccles who put all the teachers to shame - throughout the day she appeared in no less than 5 costumes!!  Well done Miss Eccles.

Victorian Premier’s Reading Challenge

The Victorian Premier’s Reading Challenge ends on the 5th of September! Well done to those students who have completed the challenge! Continue your great reading!

MACSSIS Survey for St Brigid’s Families

Between 1-19 September we pause to listen to our families, students and staff through the anonymous MACSSIS Survey and we would like as many families to complete this survey as possible. Please look out for an email with more information and your unique family pin, and answer the questions so we can learn more about what you think is working well at St Brigid’s and where we can improve.

Feast of Assumption Mass and Liturgy

A very big thank you to Fr Andrew who had to rearrange and change times to help us celebrate the Feast of Assumption Mass. Our Year 3-6 students were meant to go to Mass at the church but the weather was against us. It was a lovely Mass and our readers Ethan, Louise, Christina, Gemma, Josh Sairsore and Layla did an amazing job - thank you.

Our Foundation to Year 2 had planned a Liturgy so they celebrated the Feast of the Assumption upstairs - a special mention to our Year 2 students who lead the liturgy - well done!

School of Rock - Thursday 19 September - 7:00pm - St Louis de Montfort Primary School Hall

The excitement is building and we are one month away from this year's Concert - School of Rock.  Tickets will go on sale on Monday via the CDFpay App.  Limit 5 per family.  Adults $20.00 Children 5-18 years $10.00.  Toddlers free but will have to sit on a parents knee.

2026 Plans

We politely ask all families to notify the school should your child/children not be returning to St Brigid’s in 2026.  We have had a number of enquiries in recent weeks across various levels. Having an accurate indication of our enrolment numbers ensures we can plan accordingly for the following school year and access appropriate funding, such as staffing and resourcing. We thank you for your cooperation.

Semester 2 Wellbeing Reps.

We are excited to announce our Semester 2 Wellbeing Reps. They will receive their badges at the next whole school assembly.

Congratulations!

Book Fair

Thank you to all who attended last week's Book Fair.  Through sales made at the Book Fair we received $1000 worth of new books for our Library.  That's approximately 90 new books (picture story books, junior fiction & fiction)  How incredible is that!

With thanks,
