Need to Know

It has been a busy and exciting few weeks at St Helena, filled with celebrations, achievements, and opportunities that continue to highlight the strength of our school community.

Year 12 Formal

Our Year 12 students recently celebrated their formal, a memorable evening that reflected the maturity, style and spirit of the graduating class. It was wonderful to see them enjoy this milestone together, supported by staff.

Book Week

Book Week once again brought our school alive with creativity and enthusiasm. From themed activities to competitions, students across all year levels embraced the chance to celebrate the joy of reading.

Teach the Teacher Program

A real highlight this term was our Teach the Teacher program. Student leaders presented data they had gathered about their classroom experiences and worked alongside staff to reflect on teaching and learning. It was inspiring to see our students take such initiative and share their insights in such a constructive way.

Principal’s Awards

Over six lunchtimes, the Principal Team had the pleasure of presenting the Principal’s Awards to students across all year levels who demonstrated outstanding academic achievement and exceptional learning growth. Many parents attended, and it was wonderful to celebrate the hard work and dedication of our students together.

42nd Street Production

This week sees the opening of our much-anticipated school production, 42nd Street. Having witnessed rehearsals, I can confidently say audiences are in for a treat. The talent and effort of our students and staff shine through in every scene. With eight performances scheduled and tickets already selling quickly, I encourage everyone to book soon to avoid disappointment—this looks set to be a sell-out!

SWPBS Gold Award

Finally, I am proud to share that St Helena has, for the second year running, received the Gold Award for School Wide Positive Behaviours (SWPBS)—the only secondary college in our network to do so. This is an extraordinary achievement and recognition of our ongoing commitment to building a positive and supportive school culture. My heartfelt congratulations go to Shaun Isbister and Josh Marchbank for their leadership and dedication in driving this program.

Tracksuit Pants on Sale

Bob Stewart's Uniform Supplies has a limited number of branded St Helena tracksuit pants for sale at $30, reduced from $64.95.   These are high quality uniform items, and are still able to be worn alongside the plain, unbranded black tracksuit pants.

Racism Policy

St Helena Secondary College is an inclusive school where all members of our school community are welcome.   I was pleased that the Victorian Education Department has made racism prevention and response a high priority with the recent release of the Preventing and Addressing Racism in Schools Policy.    Racism will not be tolerated in our college and I encourage parents and students to report any instances via AskLeadership@sthelena.vic.edu.au or directly to a principal class member.   Please find the policy here:  https://www2.education.vic.gov.au/pal/preventing-addressing-racism-schools/policy

Dare to be Excellent

Huge congratulations to Year 9 student Aimee Retief.  Aimee represented School Sports Victoria at the 2025 SSA Hockey Championships two weeks ago, and the team came away with a silver media.   In terms of personal achivement, Aimee was named in the 2025 SSA u15 All Australian Team.  Well done Aimee - you have made your family and your school very proud!
