Welcome back to school for our Grade Ones and a very special welcome to our new Preppies and their families. We have had a lot of fun getting to know each other over the past week and a half. Everyone has settled in very well.
In Literacy we have been learning about the letters Mm, Ss and Ff and their most common sounds. Grade Ones have been challenged to think about words that have m, s and f in the middle and at the end of words.
In Numeracy we have been learning about patterns with letters, colours, numbers and shapes. Ask your child to make a pattern with items from your home to show you what they have learnt so far.
At Bunyip Primary School we try to be as sustainable as possible. Hopefully your child has taught you about Nude Food; food with no wrappers, where we encourage students/ families to follow as much as possible. Students/ parents have been doing an amazing job reducing the waste that goes to landfill, instead buying larger sizes of food such as yogurt and putting it in reusable containers, thereby reducing the packets of yougurt going into the landfill bin every day. We have also learnt about Ya Ya who can 'eat' paper and cardboard at school. Students have learnt about Be Bo who can 'eat' fruit and vegetable scraps at school which either goes to our chickens or goes into the compost bins.
Student of the week
Congratulations to Daxton, who is a Grade One student in Prep/ One Guy. Daxton was voted to be our student of the week because he is such an amazing role model to our grade, continually showing our school values of being a Responsible Ringtail; doing the right thing and he tells the truth. He is a Respectful Wren; treating others the way he would like to be treated - with kindness. He is shows how to be a Resilient Roo, bouncing back when he is faced with a challenging learning activity or a tricky situation. Well done Daxton, we are so very proud of you.
Congratulations also to Cole who was also chosen by his peers for showing a huge amount of resilience, starting school. He is a Resilient Roo, bouncing back when feeling sad or upset. Well done Cole; we are super duper proud of you. Keep up the terrific work.
My classroom door is always open to you should you wish to discuss your child, their learning or wellbeing. I can be reached at jane.guy@education.vic.gov.au or ring the school on 56 295 462.
A reminder that next week we will be beginning Reading Circles. This is when your child will be reading to their Reading Group and then swapping their take home reader. We really need an adult to sit with each group from 3.00pm- 3.30pm each day. You will need to show the office your current Working With Children's Check if you would like to help us in the classroom.
A very warm welcome to all our new families and Preps. I hope you have had a lovely welcome with our staff and students.
Over the past week and a half we have been looking at the letter M, S and F, and different words that start with these sounds, as well for the grade ones we have been looking at where we can hear the sound either at the start of the word, in the middle or at the end. In Prep/One Thomas we have also been looking at ways to be kind to one another and how our emotions can all be different.
In numeracy, we have been looking at patterns and the different types of patterns eg. coloured patterns or using school objects such as glue sticks and scissors. If you ask your child what they have learnt in maths about patterns they will be able to make a pattern using objects at home.
Our student of the week this week is Billie V, congratulations Billie on this wonderful achievement. This week her peers voted Billie as our student of the week for being a respectful wren, Billie is always treating others with kindness and offering to help our wonderful preps in transitioning to the school routine. Well done Billie.
Please feel free to email me on grace.thomas3@education.vic.gov.au or speak to me after school, my door is always open to talk about any concerns or even just a check in in how your student is doing overall.
A reminder that next Monday we will be beginning Reading Circles. This is when your child will be reading to their Reading Group and then swapping their take home reader. We really need an adult to sit with each group from 3.00pm- 3.30pm each day. You will need to show the office your current Working With Children's Check if you would like to help us in the classroom.
We are so excited to be back at school, and looking forward to a great year ahead together. It's been amazing to see how well the students have all settled in. 😊😊

Can we please be mindful of what we pack in our students lunchbox, as we have students in 12M with Allergies to Peanuts and Seasme Seeds. We are educating all the students in our class that if they eat a Nutella sandwich, for example, they need to wash their hands, santise and eat away from the students who have allergies.
We have a very cheeky Pigeon in our class, who does not want to go to school. All the students in our class wrote a letter to our Pigeon, to say why they think he would love school. Then they made a backpack for the Pigeon. At the end of the book, the Pigeon discovered he loved school. That's not it though....... This Pigeon is getting up to lots of antics in the classroom.

In Maths, we have been learning all about me. Students have had to enter different numbers to say their age, how many family members live at home and so on. They have then had to either do a sum as an addition or a subtraction, and then stick over the number.

Foxy is our Classroom Bear. Starting on Friday, he will go home with someone. He comes with full instructions and loves going home with a different student each Friday. We can't wait to hear what adventures he gets up to.

Our first student of the week is Jackson N. Well Done Jackson.
Each Monday, we actually pick a student of the week, randomly. This allows the student to show how to be a good role model to other students in the classroom and to follow our School Values: Be Respectful, Responsible and Resilient.

LIBRARY BUS MONDAYS
SCHOOL LIBRARY THURSDAYS
The library bus comes most Mondays to school, and I have most of the classes, library cards in class. If you have your child's library card at home and they would like to borrow, can you please bring their card on Monday to school.
In the school library, students are allowed to borrow 2 books. We go to the library on a Thursday afternoon. Your child is allowed to have their books out for 2 weeks. Books that were borrowed yesterday are due back to school on Thursday 19th of February. If they would like to borrow next Thursday, they will need to bring those books back first, before they can borrow again.

Just a reminder, students need to bring a hat to school each day or they can leave their hat at school. With the warmer weather, students are extremely thirsty. Can you please make sure you pack a named water bottle for them. 💦💦
Every Friday, I will check their Reading diaries. Please make sure you fill in what book they read at night. Did you know you can access all books on our online platform, Little Learners Love Literacy. Your child's login is inside their diary; this also counts as reading at home. Please just write it in their diary. NEXT WEEK..... They will be able to take home books from the classroom. We are currently sorting out book boxes.
Please name any hats, jackets, jumpers, water bottles etc. It makes it a lot easier for us, to return to them.
Students are using a lot more Energy at school, so they may need an extra piece of fruit, snack or sandwich in their lunch boxes 😊

I am always available to have a chat. The mornings can be a little hectic, but I am available in the afternoons. If it's something that may need some extra time, let me know, and we can book a meeting. Please feel free to email also at: michelle.murphy4@education.vic.gov.au
Enjoy your week.
Mrs (Michelle) Murphy
We are absolutely delighted to be back at school and beginning a wonderful year together. It has been so lovely to see how quickly and confidently the students have settled into their new classroom routines, reconnecting with friends and embracing new learning experiences.

Important Information:
Next week we will begin student achievers, take-home readers and Show and Tell. Please keep an eye out for an email letting you know which day your child can bring a named item from home to share with the class. Students are also welcome to share any special news or events happening in their lives on their allocated day — we love celebrating these moments together.
With the warm summer weather continuing, lunch and recess play can become quite hot. Please remember to pack an extra piece of fruit and ensure your child brings a water bottle each day so they can stay hydrated, healthy, and ready for learning.
Learning:
In Literacy, we have been revisiting familiar phonics sounds, including ll, ss, ff, ph, and ck, helping students build confidence as they read and write.
In Numeracy, students have been exploring data and statistics by collecting All About Me information. We have been using this to create class column graphs and tally charts, and to ask and answer questions about our class data — a wonderful way to see both our similarities and what makes each of us unique.

Across the school, we have also been learning about sustainability, supported by Dinny, Yah Yah, and Bebo. Students are encouraged to bring nude food where possible and to take home any food wrappers that come with their lunch. It has been wonderful to see students already making thoughtful choices to help care for our environment.
We are looking forward to a fantastic term ahead, filled with learning, growth, and many special moments together. I look forward to meeting you all throughout the year, please feel free to pop in and see me after school if you have any questions or concerns or just want to say hello.
Miss (Ashlee) Smith

Do you have any old buckets, spades, trucks, or diggers you are no longer using at home? We would love your old sandpit toys to use at school. If you have anything that is not broken, can you please bring it to Mrs Murphy's classroom. Thankyou so much for your Donation. 😊😊
