🌿 VCE Environmental Science in Action!

Our VCE Environmental Science students have been busy swapping the classroom for the field as they undertake habitat and biodiversity assessments in our local area. As part of their studies, students are learning how environmental scientists monitor and manage ecosystems. This involves collecting real-world data, analysing environmental indicators, and evaluating ecosystem health — skills that are central to the VCE Environmental Science Study Design.

Recently, students conducted fieldwork at U.L. Daly Reserve and along the riparian zone of Jacksons Creek. During these investigations, they assessed habitat quality, examined vegetation structure, considered biodiversity levels, and discussed the ecosystem services these environments provide to our local community.

Working in small field teams, students applied scientific sampling techniques and observed firsthand how environmental monitoring supports sustainable land management and conservation decision-making. In addition to collecting data, students demonstrated our College values of Respect and Innovation by taking positive environmental action. They assisted with litter collection along Jacksons Creek, helping to protect local wildlife and improve the health of this important waterway.

It has been fantastic to see students engaging so thoughtfully with their local environment — developing practical scientific skills while contributing to the wellbeing of our community. Well done to our Environmental Scientists in the making!
