Tuesday 17 March – Monday 23 March: Catch-up tests

Students will need to bring their charged device and a pen/pencil to each test.    All tests will be conducted in B-Block, and students are to line up outside to be escorted to their testing room by their teacher.  Headphones are required for the Conventions of Language test only.

All eligible students are expected to participate in NAPLAN.  NAPLAN is an important assessment for all students to complete as it provides a clear snapshot of their skills in reading, writing, language conventions and numeracy at this point in time.    NAPLAN test results provide information for students, parents/carers, teachers and principals on student learning growth and is used to support student achievement and access to targeted interventions and extension programs.  Students may be withdrawn from NAPLAN by their parent or carer. This is a matter for careful consideration by parents/carers in consultation with the principal or NAPLAN Coordinator. If, after consultation, you decide to withdraw your child, you must sign a student withdrawal form which will be provided by the NAPLAN Coordinator upon request.

Students will sit practice NAPLAN tests in their English and Maths class in Week 6 to familiarize themselves with the online format of the tests and the style of questioning and is an opportunity for students to ask questions of their teachers.

Catch up tests will be run for individual students who are absent on test days, and students will be withdrawn from other classes in order to complete these tests.  Catch-up tests will appear on Compass and students will need to present to B9 with their charged device at the allocated time.

Support, such as extra time and rest breaks, will be arranged for students who regularly use similar supports for classroom assessment tasks.    Parents who have been contacted regarding disability adjustments for their child, need to provide consent by Friday, 27 February.  Exemptions may be granted to students with significant intellectual disabilities and to students who have been learning English for less than one year.

Parents/carers will receive their child’s personal NAPLAN report later in the year.  If you have any questions about NAPLAN, please contact the GSC NAPLAN Coordinator: simone.moore@education.vic.gov.au
