In Term 3, the grade 3 and 4 students were learning about collage artist Laura Blythman. Blythman is an Australian artist, designer, illustrator, and creative director known for her vibrant paper collage art. Her distinctive style, characterized by colourful landscapes, flora, and fauna, has led to collaborations with major brands like Disney, Erstwilder, and the National Gallery of Victoria, as well as a wide range of clients from start-ups to high-profile companies. She creates art by painting and cutting paper, which she then reassembles into imaginative pieces.   

The students first painted their own paper using fluoro water colours and acrylics that had been tinted with white. The background was also rolled on using pearl paint. Mountain shapes were cut out from the paper, arranged with larger mountains in the background, with smaller mountains appearing in the middle ground and foreground. Suns and moons were added in the sky, and smaller details such as snow caps, bushes and black pattern were included to finish the artwork.  Here are some of the fantastical landscape collages created by the students.
