Using the picture book Give Bees a Chance by Bethany Barton as inspiration, students will explore the important role bees play in the collection and production of honey. They will build their vocabulary, gather and organise facts, and learn how to present information clearly and logically. Through reading, discussion, and writing, students will deepen their understanding of how bees make honey and why they are so important to our environment.

What can you do at home?

  • Nessy is a great literacy resource to use that supplements your child's reading in a fun engaging way on their iPad.
  • Have your child ask you questions about the books that they are reading.
  • Before reading a book, have your child make predictions about the story line

🧮 Maths:

Grade One Students:

This week in Maths, our Grade 1 students will continue their learning about time. They will explore how we measure and organise time by ordering events within a day and familiarising themselves with units such as seconds, minutes, hours, days, and weeks. Students will also begin learning to identify features of an analogue clock and tell time to the hour. Through hands-on activities and discussions, they will compare the duration of everyday events and develop a stronger sense of how time passes throughout the day.

What can you do at home?

  • Encourage your child to notice clocks around the house and talk about what the hands show.
  • Ask questions like, “What time does school start?” or “What time do we eat dinner?” to help connect their learning to real-life routines.

Grade Two Students:

This week in Maths, our Grade 2 students are beginning their new unit on Time. They will start by revising the months of the year and linking them to the four seasons. Students will explore how many days are in each month and learn to use calendars to identify days, dates, months, and special events. As their understanding grows, they will use real and classroom calendars to calculate how many days, weeks, and months are between different dates, building their confidence in using time to plan and organise events.

What can you do at home?

  • Look at a family calendar together and talk about upcoming events or holidays.
  • Ask your child to find today’s date or count how many days until a special event.
  • Discuss how many weeks are left in the month or how many months until their birthday.
  • Encourage your child to record important dates (like sports days or birthdays) on a calendar.
