School Wide Positive Behaviour Supports

Encouraging Positive Behaviour at Our School

At our school, we want every child to feel happy, valued and ready to learn. When we notice and encourage students for showing kindness, respect, and effort, we build a positive environment where learning can flourish.

This term, we’ve been focusing on encouraging expected behaviours the everyday positive actions that make our classrooms calm, safe, and friendly. Teachers have built strong connections with students through simple, caring interactions such as a smile, a greeting, or a quick chat. When students feel noticed, they’re more likely to engage and try their best.

We’re also giving specific positive feedback to help students understand exactly what they’ve done well. Instead of a general “Good job,” teachers might say, “I really like how you helped your partner with their work, that shows great teamwork.”

During recent learning walks, we’ve seen wonderful evidence of this approach in action. Classrooms are filled with positive language and teachers are taking every opportunity to recognise students for their effort, persistence, and cooperation. It’s clear that students respond well to this encouragement, they’re more engaged, confident, and proud of their learning.

By focusing on encouragement, positive feedback, and strong relationships, we’re building a school community where respect and learning thrive and where every child feels they belong.

This week, we invite families to take a moment to look over the poster below and talk with their child about our school expectations in outdoor areas. By sharing these conversations at home and at school, we strengthen a consistent message that encourages positive choices every day.
