Week 6, Term 4
Christmas Carols 🎄🎅🏼🎁🎶


It’s hard to believe, but it is beginning to sound a lot like Christmas in the Performing Arts room! This week, alongside the learning below, classes are starting or continuing to learn their carols and get into the festive spirit. The event will take place on Wednesday, December 3rd, in the late afternoon/evening. Information was emailed to families last week and is also included in the Wonga Weekly here.
PREP
Students are continuing to develop their understanding of space in dance. This week they’ll explore levels, moving at high, medium,and low levels. They will also continue experimenting with different directions and pathways to create movement. Students will also continue to play with simple rhythm and timing in their dancing.
GRADE 1/2
Students will warm up with some movement games and explore how dancers work with a partner by moving together and responding to one another. They’ll also try out some well-known dance crazes by beginning to learn the Cha Cha Slide, building coordination, timing, and teamwork in a fun and energetic way.
GRADE 3/4
Students will be finishing their rehearsals for their short script titled Night at the Museum. Working collaboratively, they will consolidate their character choices and prepare to perform their scene for the class, focusing on using the performance space effectively and bringing their story to life for an audience.
GRADE 5
Students are continuing their work on the ukulele. After revising the C, A minor, and F chords, they will practise putting these chords together into short songs. This week, they will continue learning the G and G7 three-finger chords, and focus on smoothly moving between all the chords they have learnt to accompany a variety of simple pieces.
GRADE 6
Students are progressing with their creative projects. After developing and pitching their ideas, they are now rehearsing, composing, and designing their work. They will continue expanding and refining their ideas as they work toward presenting their completed creative piece later in the term.
🏀 Hoop Time All Stars
A huge congratulations to our Year 6 All Star Boys team who represented our school proudly at the Regional Hoop Time Finals in Nunawading last Thursday. The boys played exceptionally well, winning all of their group stage matches and advancing to the Grand Final. In an exciting and hard-fought game, they were narrowly defeated by just two points!
A big thank you goes to Jonah for his outstanding coaching and support on the day, as well as to all the parents and families who came along to cheer the team on — your encouragement made a real difference!
🏐 Prep
This week in PE, our Prep students will be focusing on developing their kicking technique. They’ll learn how to place their non-kicking foot correctly, make contact with the ball using the instep, and follow through with balance. Through fun games and activities, students will continue building coordination, confidence, and control.
⚾ Grades 1 & 2
Students in Grades 1 and 2 will be exploring how to perform a strike using a rounders bat. They’ll practise holding the bat correctly, tracking the ball with their eyes, and striking with good timing and control. Activities will take place in small groups to encourage teamwork, cooperation, and skill development in a supportive environment.
🏑 Grades 3 & 4
Our Grade 3 and 4 students will be introduced to the exciting sport of hockey this week. They’ll learn how to control the ball, dribble, and strike using the correct technique. Lessons will include skill stations and mini-games that build confidence with the stick and ball while promoting safe and fair play.
🏒 Grades 5 & 6
Students in Grades 5 and 6 are beginning their Hockey Unit. This week’s focus will be on ball control, accurate hitting technique, and basic game play strategies. As the unit progresses, students will take part in small-sided games to develop tactical understanding, teamwork, and on-field decision-making skills.
All students will be bringing their work from the Art Show home this week.
Prep
Students will be creating a painting of of a Christmas tree, practising a soft wrist ‘flicking’ action with their paint brush.
Grade 1 and 2
Students will be creating an artwork based on the book ‘The Dot’. They will cut their work into quarters and share two pieces with a friend to make an interesting design.
Grade 3/4
Students will be creating a Christmas decoration to sell at a Grade 3/4 stall later on this term. They will use embossing tin to create a mandala design in the shape of a bauble.
Grade 5
Students will start a mosaic project, drawing a design of their choice and planning out the pieces needed to make it come to life!
Grade 6
Students will be starting their clay legacy tiles. They will draw inspiration from previous years and design their own incorporating their unique passions and interests.
Grade 1 & 2:
Students will continue to learn about the seasonal patterns of nature, with a particular focus on the calendars of the local Wurundjeri people. Through observations of the sky, they will learn about the patterns of day, night, and seasons; including the movements of the sun, moon, planets and stars.
Grade 3 & 4:
Students will investigate the different uses for rocks and minerals, which ones are quarried and mined locally, as well as how different rock types were used and continue to be used by Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Peoples.
Grade 5 & 6:
Students will connect their knowledge of physical and chemical change to the process of weathering on rocks and minerals in the environment. They will learn about different processes that transform the landscape over time, including erosion and depositions.
