From the Principal

It was in 1977 when St Louis School and Loreto Claremont amalgamated to form John XXIII College under the leadership of Fr Daven Day SJ, who we were privileged to have visit our campus last week. During his visit, Fr Day was welcomed by staff and students from across the Primary and Secondary Schools and on return to his home in Sydney, Fr Day wrote: ‘What a wonderful welcome you gave me last Monday. Thank you for making me feel so much at home. I was quite overwhelmed with everything I experienced in the school: the amazing architecture, the sheer extent of the College faculties and the great warmth I felt from staff and students.’
I was particularly taken by Fr Day’s recognition of the warmth he felt from staff and students, especially given hospitality holds a special place within Ignatian spirituality, being much more than a mere gesture of welcome. By opening our hearts and offering our time and service, we nurture a community where every person feels seen, valued, and connected.
The level of volunteerism within our College is another tangible example of that service, and so it was during last night’s 2025 Supporters’ Sundowner when we had the opportunity to extend our thanks to all those who so generously dedicate their time, energy, and expertise to support our College. Our students are truly blessed to be surrounded by such strong and supportive partnerships, and our College is equally blessed to share in this vibrant, caring community.
To all of our dedicated volunteers, thank you for the valuable contributions you all make.
