Secondary 11/12

Term 4

Year 11

This term, our Year 11 students explored a range of issues within their local community as part of their Community Understanding unit. Students also learned about the responsibilities of community leaders and had opportunities to speak with them during excursions. Visits to Watsonia Neighbourhood House and Open House in Macleod helped students see the wide variety of programs available to young people beyond school. They also planned and presented a Minute to Win It activity for a Year 11 event, which involved extensive collaboration and team work within their Year 11 community at Concord School.

In Numeracy, students focused on financial skills by linking their Earn and Learn learning from Term 3 with a Travel Project, planning and budgeting for their own holiday.

Literacy lessons centred on community awareness through opinion writing and informed discussions about topics ranging from School Captain speeches to current affairs.

Students continued their Wednesday and Thursday programs, including volunteering at the Bunnings Sausage Sizzle, where they took on different roles to meet their Work-Related Skills outcomes. Their placement at Brunswick Industries further supported the development of communication, teamwork and time-management skills in a real workplace setting.

As part of the Industry Exploration unit, students visited various workplaces to observe daily operations and consider future career interests. Several also took part in the Real Industry Job Interviews (RIJI), creating professional resumes and cover letters before interviewing with real employers.

The term concluded with end-of-year markets, celebrations and shared experiences that helped create lasting memories for the cohort.

Year 12

Our senior Secondary cohort enjoyed a busy and highly productive final term as they approached the completion of their schooling. The Year 12 students showed great commitment as they finalised their Victorian Pathways Certificate (VPC) assessments while taking part in a variety of enriching programs and learning experiences.

Students also worked on developing this year’s Giving Back project. Planning progressed steadily throughout the term, with the cohort showing strong collaboration, creativity and initiative as they shaped their ideas and gathered the resources needed. Together the Year 12 students organised a fundraising sausage sizzle, organised donations and created an incredible ZEN garden for the future 11/12 students to enjoy.

Across the term, all Year 11 and 12 students continued with their VET programs on Wednesdays and their Work-Related Skills placements on Thursdays. Many Year 12 students completed their final rotations at the Concord School Café, while Year 11 students began their own shifts. The café remained an invaluable workplace learning opportunity, sparking genuine interest in hospitality among many of our young people.

A highlight of the year was the Year 12 Camp to the Mornington Peninsula, where students embraced every opportunity with enthusiasm. Across the three days they experienced everything from making their own rocky road, to exploring the Rye foreshore at sunset, paddleboarding along the coast, and cruising the bay in search of seals and dolphins. A twilight visit to the hot springs and a well-earned pizza night added to the fun. Their behaviour, teamwork and level of respect across the camp was wonderful and reflected the leadership and maturity they have developed across the year.

Last week, we had the pleasure of celebrating our Year 12 students at their Graduation ceremony. It was a wonderful evening that recognised their personal growth, achievements and contribution to the Concord School community. With Graduation now complete, our Year 12 cohort has officially finished their schooling and begun the transition to their post-school pathways.

It was a very fulfilling and memorable final term, and we are incredibly proud of the dedication, resilience and community spirit our senior students demonstrated throughout their final year.
