Prep

This week in Prep, students explored the concept of creativity and how ideas can improve an object. After listening to the story I Have an Idea, they worked with a partner to brainstorm ways to make a cat more interesting and fun to play with. Students then sketched their redesigned cats, showcasing their imaginative and creative thinking.
In Inquiry, the Prep students have been investigating the properties of different materials. To prepare for building their boats to “float their goats,” they tested a range of materials in water to determine which were absorbent and which were waterproof. The students agreed that the baking paper, icy pole sticks and foil were the best materials to build a boat with.
Growing God's Love
As the term progresses, the students’ seeds are beginning to sprout through the soil. This learning experience has provided a meaningful way to discuss how we can grow our love for God in our hearts. The good soil represents our hearts, and the seed represents our love for God. The ways we connect with God through prayer, songs, reading the Bible, and showing kindness are like the water and sunlight that help the plant grow strong.
Maths
In Maths, the Prep students represented two-digit numbers using bundles, icy-pole sticks, base-10 blocks, and individual ones. Using concrete materials helps them visualise numbers as tens and ones. Students have also been learning to identify and sort Australian coins.
