St Mary’s made a remarkable impact at this year’s JSS Grand Finals, with an impressive six teams qualifying - our highest number of appearances in recent years. Demonstrating exceptional talent, teamwork, and determination, our athletes brought home five premiership titles out of six grand final matches.
We are incredibly proud of every student who represented our College with pride, sportsmanship, and fierce competitiveness. Their commitment to excellence - often training before school, after school, and during lunch breaks - truly paid off.
A heartfelt thank you to our dedicated sports teachers and coaches, whose tireless efforts and passion continue to inspire our teams to reach new heights.
Competition Highlights:
Division 1 Champions – Boys AFL Player of the Final: Boston Demas
Congratulations to all our teams and individual award winners. Your hard work and dedication have made the entire St Mary’s community proud!

Last month, our Year 7 and 8 students proudly represented St Mary’s at the annual 3x3 Gala Day held at Cairns Basketball. Throughout the day, students demonstrated outstanding sportsmanship, teamwork, and College spirit.
A special shout-out goes to our Year 7 Boys’ Team, who finished as runners-up in their division - an incredible effort! Congratulations, boys!

The Group A Justice & Service students have been interviewing residents at Edmonton Gardens Aged Care about their younger years. These interviews will be compiled into a booklet capturing the life stories of some of our local aged-care residents. This has been a fascinating activity for the students, and the residents have shared that they’ve really enjoyed it too.

Get ready for our annual College Parkrun Takeover — a much-loved event where the St Mary’s community “takes over” the volunteer roster at Cairns Parkrun, while also participating in this free 5km community event!
If you would like to volunteer for various marshalling, scanning, and checkpoint roles, please email Clare Robertson or Andrea O'Grady.
Date: Saturday, 15 November (Week 6)
Location: Northern end of the Esplanade, opposite Guyala Café
Time: Meet at 6:45 am for a 7:00 am start
Dress: Please wear your school sports uniform
Parkrun is a free, international community event held every Saturday morning that encourages active living and positive social connection. As we approach the end of a busy year, this is an excellent opportunity to come together, stay active, and support our physical and mental well-being.
If you’d like to join in, you’re encouraged to sign up for a free Parkrun barcode, which can be scanned after each run to record your results and track your progress as part of the Parkrun community.
Register here: www.parkrun.com.au/register
(Please note: a barcode is not required to participate — everyone is welcome!)
