This week we had some wonderful parents who came in to support with reading in the Prep space. We appreciate the time that parents and grandparents areable to give to listen to children read. If you are interested in helping with reading in classrooms, please make sure your Working With Children Check is up to date and come and have a chat with your child's teacher or myself.
National Reconciliation Week (NRW) is celebrated across Australia each year between 27 May and 3 June. The dates commemorate two significant milestones in the reconciliation journey—the anniversaries of the successful 1967 referendum and the High Court Mabo decision.
National Reconciliation Week (NRW) is an opportunity for Australians to reflect and learn from First Nations peoples and Communities. Reconciliation is about strengthening relationships between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and non-Indigenous peoples, for the benefit of all Australians.
For Reconciliation Week our Prep students listened to a few 'yarns' across the week and created some wonderful craft as a response to the literature using a different kind of yarn to make rainbow snake...
It is so great to see the children in 1/2MB show such independence in changing their home readers daily, as well as recording their levelled text in their reading journal...
It is that time of year again when students are completing assessments for mid year reporting. It is a busy time in the classrooms as teachers are trying to get through explicitly teaching this semester's learning from the Victorian Curriculum, while assessing your child's learning.
Whilst ongoing formative assessment occurs throughout the year and informs the learning that teachers will plan for students at their point of need weekly, the summative assessment is a summation of learning which ascertains the growth and progress across the semester. This summative assessment data helps to inform the mark given on the reports that you will receive at the end of this term and again at the end of Term 4.
Over the next few weeks, students will be involved in a range of summative assessments such as PAT Testing, Essential Assessment Testing, Running Records and teacher devised oral and written tests which assess learning in Literacy and Numeracy.
The teachers also use their daily observations and work samples from learning that students are involved in every day to help triangulate the data that is allocated on the mid year reports. This ensures that the score allocated is an accurate representation of where your child sits across all learning areas in light of the Victorian Curriculum.
Whilst all of this data gives us a good indication of student learning over the semester, this should not be a stressful time for any child. If you have any questions about any of the end of year assessments please see your child's class teacher or feel free to come and chat with me.
We look forward to sharing the students' achievements with you at the Student Led Conversations which will be held in Week 10 on Wednesday 19th June and in their School Reports which will be emailed home on Monday 17th June. This is an opportunity to celebrate your child's achievements from across this semester.
If at any time you would like to chat about the learning at Trinity, or you have any questions or concerns about your child's learning, please do not hesitate to see your child's teacher, or myself.
