Year 3 Strings Program

Last Thursday, our Year 3 String students showcased their progress at the Primary Assembly.

Having spent a term mastering pizzicato, they are now excitedly using the bow. They can play numerous tunes on their instruments and are becoming more confident in performing for their classmates during lessons.

Year 3 students interested in private lessons can email Mrs Gordon at kgordon@clayfield.qld.edu.au.

Arts Day

Guest Adjudicator

We are pleased that Brett Holland will be adjudicating our House Choral Competition on Arts Day – Wednesday 29 May 2024

Brett Holland holds a Bachelor of Music from the Queensland Conservatorium, Graduate Diploma Education from QUT and Master of Philosophy (Music) from the University of Queensland. He has sung professionally with Opera Queensland, Opera Australia and as the Bass Soloist for numerous works, concerts and ensembles over the last 25 years. Brett has also been the Adjudicator for the Townsville Eisteddfod, Queensland Catholic Schools Music Festival, Coffs Harbour District Eisteddfod, Queensland Vocal Competition and next year will adjudicate the North Queensland Eisteddfod. Brett is in great demand as a vocal teacher, adjudicator, conductor, guest choral clinician and was the Director of Choral and Vocal Studies at the Brisbane Boys’ College for 20 years.

Musical Theatre Workshop

Students will be involved in a range of activities throughout the day, including a musical theatre workshop with Jess Ryan. In this masterclass, students will explore integrating staging, movement, character and song to create a performance to “School Song” from Matilda the Musical.  They will be building characters from the inside out and embodying the text.

Yoga

Some students will have the opportunity to participate in yoga, instructed in Chinese and English. Yoga is a practice that connects the body, breath, and mind. It uses physical postures, breathing exercises, and meditation to improve overall health. Yoga was developed as a spiritual practice thousands of years ago.  This will be a perfect opportunity to support students with stress management, mental health and mindfulness.

Stage Makeup Techniques

Other students will be provided with the knowledge on how to apply makeup for theatre. Stage makeup is very different to everyday/event makeup. Students will be learning about enhancing your facial features so on stage so that they can let their light shine. Stage makeup can look more dramatic when face to face with a performer however on stage it appears less intense.

We are looking forward for a great day, embracing Creative Arts for all!
