Learning from Hubs

Handwriting at St. John’s - One and Two Hub spotlight

In the One and Two Hubs, educators have been planning handwriting lessons based on the handwriting scope and sequence created at the beginning of term. These lessons explore various letter formations, such as those from letter families (like "body letters" using the cat and body letter formation template and letters from the "u" family) as well as letter placement using dotted thirds writing template. Educators in their learning design also identify children who could benefit from further letter formation practice through writing and handwriting target groups.

Winter Sport

Over the last 5 Fridays, our 5/6 Hub children have been playing Soccer, Netball and Tee Ball against other local schools as a part of the Inter School sports program.

Each week all teams have been developing their skills along with understanding tactics of the game to improve their team play.

All educators involved were impressed and very proud of the efforts of all of our teams. They improved not only in their skills, but also their cooperation, teamwork and their resilience to keep trying and persist during challenging games.

We are awaiting the final round on Friday to see where our netball teams finish on the ladder and if they will compete in the Finals in Week 10. Fingers crossed!

Congratulations to all our teams.

Cross Country

Congratulations to Pearl, BryanIsla and Tilly (5/6 Hub) who participated in the Maribyrnong Division Cross Country event at Brimbank Park on Wednesday 28th May.  It was a great effort to reach this level and they had to run in very windy conditions over 2km or 3km around a hilly course.

Pearl ran a very good race to finish 3rd in the 12yr old girls event and this has enabled her to progress to the Western Regional Cross Country event which will be held on Wednesday 20th June.

The St. John's community wishes her all the best for another great run.

Confirmation

We are proud to present this year’s Confirmation candidates:

Aaron, Maliko, Violet, Miriam, Awar, Baydah, Audrey, Harriet, Gabby and Wren (not pictured).

Tonight, our year 6 candidates will participate in their Sacrament of Confirmation at Our Lady’s Church in Maidstone.

We invite you to keep our candidates in your thoughts and prayers.

Over the past few weeks, our year 5/6s have explored the Holy Trinity: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. To prepare our candidates, the 5/6s have engaged in dialogue around the Pentecost and the inaugural receiving of the gifts of the Holy Spirit, how this has influenced tradition and ritual over time, and where these gifts are visible within our local and global community.
