Message from Bev and Kim

Reconciliation Week at our school was a powerful learning experience for our students, highlighted by Grade 2's assembly where they shared their insights into Indigenous culture and promoting understanding and diversity. We all loved the touch of yellow students wore in support of our SRC fundraiser. Additionally, students had the privilege of hearing from our artist in residence, Bayley Mifsud, who shared the significance of our playground mural in connecting us to the Bunurong land and its people. Make sure you visit our hallways in the main building to see outstanding student work from Reconciliation Week on display.

Our school has delighted in welcoming St. Peter's Kindergarten as part of our transition program. They explored our library and playground, setting the stage for future adventures in our Prep classrooms later this term. Our students eagerly anticipate reciprocating the visit in Term 3, fostering friendships and a sense of community. If you are yet to notify the school that your child will be starting in Prep in 2025, please speak to the Admin Office.

Congratulations to our budding artists Oscar Jackson and Pola Felsbourg, finalists in the Ellen Jose Art Awards. Pola received 3rd prize for the Prep-Grade 3 category and was presented with a gift voucher. A fantastic initiative to celebrate art in Bayside. Thanks to Georgia Hellier for her coordination in the lead up to this opportunity.

Students enjoyed a visit from Harold this week to conclude our bi-annual Life Education program participation. As shared previously, for more information, and for some great resources for the family, go to https://www.lifeedvic.org.au/

Grade 1 - We learnt about our body parts, we put the body parts on a flat mat. We also learnt about sometimes and every day foods - a hot dog is a sometimes food (Max, Alfie, Aston, Vivienne).

Grade 2 - We learnt about friendship, how to be good friends, make new friends, and how to make a better community (Frankie, Olivia).

Grade 5 - We learnt what games are appropraite for our age,  and don't share your real information online and create safe passowrds.

Grade 5/6 also participated in Family Life - a program to explore puberty and sex education: "We learnt about puberty - gross - and that little things can make you angrier and armpits can get stinky and hairy because of the hormones changing in our bodies" (David, James, Billie, Belle). Love it!

Eliza Bernau (grade 4) excitingly shared the news with her cohort this week that she is expecting a baby– we are thrilled for both Eliza and Jack, and can’t wait to welcome another BBPS baby towards the end of term 4. If anyone would like to run a creche at BBPS for all of our babies, please let us know 😊
