From the Principal

Rudy Vail

Dear Parents/Carers,

District Cross Country

Today was a remarkable day for our school as 19 of our students took part in the district Cross Country event. I am immensely proud of the efforts and determination shown by all who represented OLHC. The course was indeed challenging, and the light rain made navigation even more difficult. However, our students faced these obstacles with resilience and courage.

Participating in such a tough challenge provides a unique opportunity for some of our students to shine outside the classroom. Events like these teach invaluable lessons that extend beyond academic achievement. Overcoming a difficult course in less-than-ideal weather conditions teaches our students the importance of perseverance and bouncing back from setbacks. Supporting each other  fosters a sense of camaraderie and teamwork. Our students learn the value of encouraging their peers and celebrating collective success. Achieving personal goals and completing a challenging course boosts self-esteem and confidence, showing students that they are capable of more than they might have imagined. Engaging in competitive events helps students learn how to handle both victory and defeat gracefully, fostering sportsmanship and a healthy competitive spirit.

I would also like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to Natalie Stead and Katherine Collins for volunteering their time and braving the rain to support our school. Their dedication and support made a significant difference to our students and their experience today.

Congratulations to all our participants and a big thank you to everyone who contributed to making this event a success. Let’s continue to encourage our students to take on new challenges and grow in all aspects of their lives.

Working Bee

Just a friendly reminder about our working bee tomorrow from 9am to 12pm. We look forward to seeing many of you there! Please remember to bring gloves, a yard blower, rake hands, and pruning tools if you have them. Our tasks for the day include repairing the retaining wall on Dudley Street next to the crossing, replacing sand in the sand pits (Prep & Year 2 area), emptying drain pits in the yards, filling garden beds with soil for year-level planting, removing storage from the junior deck, removing leaf litter from the yards, weeding, removing 2011 artwork off the fences, and general tidying up.

Your participation and support are greatly appreciated. Thank you, and we look forward to a productive and enjoyable morning together!
