To start the year well, students are reminded to attend all scheduled training sessions in the correct uniform in Term 1. Consistent attendance is crucial for skill development and plays a vital role in building teamwork, effectiveness and culture. Senior students, as role models, are encouraged to set a positive example for younger students through their dedication and leadership both on and off the field. Please be aware that students must have at least 85% attendance at training sessions to be eligible for sports awards.

Swimming

Glenelg Division

Congratulations to all the swimmers that took part in GD (Glenelg Division) swimming last Friday.

The sun was shining and the atmosphere within the group was buzzing, everyone keen to get in the water and race. The day started with a group stretch and lots of laughter. After a pep talk from Mr Singh, Liv and Isaac, the game plan to not get disqualified in our relays, was made clear. The plan was well executed and we are extremely proud that none of the Hamilton College relay teams were disqualified. It was also great to see so many of our younger swimmers hard work in trainings paying off with multiple personal best times.

Highlights from the day include all the support from the side of the pool cheering our swimmers on, pushing us over the line for numerous wins with the college spirt on full display. The support for our swimmers in the dreaded 200m individual medley and 50m butterfly were especially uplifting. And of course, the senior boys freestyle relay bringing home the first-place position after a close contest.

Special mentions to our age group champions, Sophie Ryan, Lucas Harper and Grace Potter who all swam in multiple events throughout the day with great success. After all our hard effort in the pool the College team walked away second in the girls, boys and overall aggregates.

Training sessions will continue until ICCES swimming which will be next Wednesday ( 5th of March) at MSAC in Melbourne.

Athletics

The upcoming House Athletics Carnival will be held at Myrniong on Tuesday 11 March (please note, this date was changed at the beginning of the year, moving from 7/3 to 11/3).

College parents and friends are warmly invited to attend, and I am seeking volunteer helpers for the day. Students are encouraged to participate in as many events as possible and showcase their House spirit. In the lead-up to the carnival, the 1500m event will be held at lunchtime on Monday 3 and Tuesday 4 March, while Years 11 and 12 discus will take place at lunchtime on Thursday 6 March. If poor weather impacts either of these events, Friday 7 March will serve as a backup day for the 1500m or senior discus.

First XI Girls

The annual girls First XI game against Monivae on Sunday 23 March was another successful one for the College girls' team.

Losing the toss, College was batting first, with openers Liv Read and Tilly Potter setting the example with an amazing start, putting College on the scoreboard for ten in the first over. Soon enough, Liv retired on her 30 and Pippa Williamson came in to smack another 30 off hardly any balls, retiring herself not long after Liv. With the top three batters retired by ten overs, College had already made a total of 102 runs. By the end of the innings, Monivae had taken a few wickets and were feeling confident, but with the dismissal of Molly Mecham and Sophie Spence, in came Annabel Wenn. While brand new to the team, Annabel batted like a superstar, hitting boundaries left and right and playing some truly beautiful cricket. By the end of College’s batting innings, the College girls were 4-174.

Next up it was College’s turn to field. With Pippa Williamson and Liv Read as our opening bowlers, Monivae saw immediately the talent our school truly holds, and in the second over College had its first wicket of the day. Soon after, the Monivae batters collapsed under the intimidation of some of the best bowlers the school has seen in a while, with Annabel Wenn, Liv Read, Sophie Satchell and Kate Drum sending the bails flying, as well as Tilly Potter and Liv Reese taking some catches in the field.  Finishing the innings with Xar Christie-Hill’s absolute heat, the College girls team took home yet another victory, against Monivae's 7-123.

Congratulations to Liv Read for winning player of the match!

Big thank you go to Miss Dixon for her help in organising the event, and Mrs Williams, who coached and managed our team beautifully, as well as scoring the game. We truly couldn’t have done it without you.

Netball

With the second round underway, all players were back in the groove, with their spirits high. The positive and determined attitude of College netball was clearly on display.

The Year 7/8 College Mavericks had a wonderful game against the Baimbridge Bandicoots, coming away with a solid win 23 vs 8. With a full team of nine on Saturday, the girls showed teamwork, great communication, some brilliant passages of play and effective partnerships in goals. Congratulations to the Mavericks on an excellent game of netball!

Our Year 7/8 Firebirds started strongly, quickly adapting to the heat, which is greatly applauded being close to 30 degrees at 9am and supporting each other well.  Their teamwork shone throughout the game, helping them secure a well-deserved win.

The Year 9/12 teams, College Thunderbirds and Vixens, played each other in a friendly game on Thursday lunch. The game was great to show progress for both teams as there are many new faces to the Term 1 netball competition. Due to the Vixens’ solid passage play and on point shots they came away with a convincing win.

Thank you to all coaches, umpires and parents who help out every week, you are greatly appreciated and don’t go unnoticed!!!
