Junior School House Athletics

Weather permitting, next Wednesday, 5 March, the Junior School House Athletics will be held at Myrniong. We are tracking the spell of hot weather and will make a call on Friday. We have a couple of backup days that could be used if the predicted temperatures sneak up to the mid 30’s. The event will commence around 9.15 am. Students will rotate through track and field events in their age groups. College parents and friends will run a BBQ again, with sausages, cupcakes, and fruit boxes on sale. Prior to the afternoon presentations, there will be a Parent v Staff v Student shuttle relay race, so bring your runners and join in the fun.

A request to parents from our House Swimming - a number of children brought coloured zinc to the House Swimming. Unfortunately, it was used for full body colouring and some inappropriate writing on arms, legs and backs. We are happy to allow students to put some House coloured ‘war paint’ on their faces in the morning before school, but ask coloured zinc sticks are not sent into school with students.

A Message From Mrs. Patterson

In order to run each event in a timely and effective fashion, we rely heavily on parental involvement in officiating events and accompanying age-groups between each event.

If you will be present at the Junior School athletics, and willing to help at a track or field event, or to walk with a particular age-group between events, please let Louise know on lpatterson14@hamiltoncollege.vic.edu.au

Thank you to all parents who are able to assist on the day; your contribution is greatly appreciated.

Questacon Incursion

We had an incursion on Wednesday from Questacon (The National Science and Technology Centre). The presenters ran two workshops for the Prep to Year 6 students. Our ELC 3s joined the Early Years session. Science is a core component of the Inquiry curriculum. It was wonderful to have a live presentation of air resistance, friction, gravity and surface tension.

Questacon are putting on a free ‘pop up’ science show this Saturday, 1 March at the Hamilton Showgrounds. The session runs from 10.00am to 4.00pm. Whilst free, bookings are essential.

Ganbatte Principle Three - The Power of Patience and Small Steps - steady progress over time. The importance of taking action, no matter how small. It encourages patience and persistence in pursuing long-term goals.

Applying the concept:

  • Break large goals into smaller, manageable tasks
  • Celebrate small victories along the way
  • Maintain consistency in effort over time
  • Focus on the process rather than just the end result

By focusing on small steps and maintaining patience, we can overcome the overwhelming nature of big challenges and make steady progress towards our goals. This approach also builds resilience and helps maintain motivation over long periods.
